Coastal Magic Convention 2024 Featured Author Spotlight: Genevieve Jack
Please give a warm welcome to Genevieve Jack to the Blog today who is one of the Featured Authors for the Coastal Magic Convention that will be at Daytona Beach, Florida (February 22-25, 2024). Check out the Interview below with Genevieve, where you get to read about five fun facts about her, learn more about her writing schedule, her upcoming release(s), and so much more.
FranJessca: Tell us five fun facts about yourself that some readers may not know.
Genevieve:
- I’ve wanted to be an author since I was five years old and used to make books for my parents by stapling handwritten pages together. My first book was titled THE DOG WHO ATE PANCAKES.
- I used to teach figure skating at a university.
- Cooking is a hobby of mine, and I make full dinner almost every night.
- My husband and I have enjoyed a real-life, blazing hot romance for 22 years.
- I can’t fall asleep without a glass of water next to the bed.
FranJessca: What is your schedule like when you’re writing a book?
Genevieve: Schedule? What’s a schedule? Honestly, I try to write around 2,000 words per day, but life happens. Sometimes it’s 5,000 and sometimes it’s zero. I try to give myself grace and simply persist until it’s done.
FranJessca: What comes first for you – the plot or the characters and why?
Genevieve: Ah, the age-old question. These two things are inseparable in my process. The events of the plot bring the characters to life, and the character’s goals and motivations are what give the plot meaning and depth. For me, they develop at the same time.
FranJessca: What genre/subgenres do you write and why?
Genevieve: I write paranormal romance with fantasy and suspense elements. Romantic stories are my absolute favorite to read and write because they are the only books where you are guaranteed a happily ever after. Paranormal romance appeals to me because the happily ever after can last more than one lifetime. I can’t think of anything more optimistic and uplifting than that. My books tend to explore the tropes of fated mates, forbidden love, hidden identity and family saga and feature shifters, witches, vampires, and fae.
FranJessca: Tell us a little about your latest series – The Wolves of Fireborn Pack?
Genevieve: The Wolves of Fireborn Pack follows a royal family of werewolves who are trying to lead the largest pack in North America after their parents are killed by a rogue pack member and their oldest brother becomes Alpha before his time. The first book, Fated Bonds, follows Laina, the princess of the pack, who has reached the age of twenty-nine and is being pressured by her Alpha brother Silas to choose a mate and get on with having royal children. Laina is a veterinarian running a successful clinic and has no interest in pack politics or marrying someone simply to fulfil an obligation. But when Kyle Kingsley, a club owner with a reputation for being a playboy, brings his dog into her clinic, her wolf decides he’s her fated mate. It all gets more complicated when the wolf who killed her parents strikes again and she’s forced under Kyle’s protection. Turns out Kyle has secrets of his own. This is a steamy, suspenseful story that both stands on its own and kicks off the trilogy. Feral Instincts, which follows her brother Jason, releases this fall.
FranJessca: How do you celebrate when you finish writing a book/series?
Genevieve: It’s going to sound, well, not very exciting but I’ll sometimes binge a series on a streaming service. Maybe buy a bottle of wine and share it with a friend.
FranJessca: Preferred format of reading – Hardcover | Paperback | eBook | Audiobook?
Genevieve: EBook, although if I enjoy the story, I will often buy it in paperback or hardcover as well for my shelves. I prefer audiobooks for non-fiction.
FranJessca: Coffee or Tea or Something else?
Genevieve: COFFEE. All the coffee. Coffee is life.
FranJessca: Favorite Place to Vacation?
Genevieve: Disney World. Yes, I’m that writer.
FranJessca: Favorite TV Show or Movie?
Genevieve: Vampire Diaries. I loved the Originals as well. Who doesn’t love a story about two gorgeous, immortal brothers fighting over one seemingly normal human woman? Yummy.
