Synopsis:

“What a fun and exciting read! Humor and suspense kept me engaged, and it was hard to put down! Looking forward to the next book in this series!!” Bobbi

When planning a murder, practice makes perfect…or does it?

Super sleuth Lainey Maynard and the Whoopee group are preparing for the bowling tournament fundraiser to save Spare Lanes Bowling Alley. Until an envelope arrived during their practice game that caused more excitement than a scored card filled with strikes. Why hadn’t Gerry Hayward been more concerned?

Spare Lanes Alley had been the hot spot where local celebrity bowlers and newbies gathered. Even framed and signed photos of professional bowlers lined the trophy wall. Now, threats of foreclosure loomed over Gerald and Phoebe Hayward, the owners, and the entire bowling community. More than bowling balls are crossing the foul line.

Gerald and Phoebe Hayward purchased the alley to start fresh after the Professional Bowling Association banned him. Past suspicions of murder, accusations of impending revenge, and enormous gambling debts don’t exactly stop the gossip mongers’ embarrassing rumors.

Lainey and the Whoopee Pin-Slayers will need more than gutter bumpers, shoe covers, and shammy rags to solve the unfolding mysteries.

A fun and intriguing cozy mystery that will keep you guessing until the end. You’ll love the delightful characters, and the twists will keep you turning the pages!

The cuckoo clock on Lainey’s kitchen wall was striking 11 a.m. as she walked inside from the garage. The Sound of Music was her late husband’s favorite movie and he had given her the clock on their last anniversary. She smiled as she watched the clock door open and a little bird poked its head out, chirping eleven times. When it retreated into the clock, the chorus of Edelweiss began playing while a door opened underneath the bird’s perch. Seven little Von Trapp children twirled and swirled to the music on a carousel. Out one door and in the other, every hour on the hour. Powie was meowing and rubbing against her leg trying to get her attention. She picked him up and he turned on his purring motor.

“I can’t hold you all day,” Lainey grinned, stroking the top of his head. “The Whoopees will be here shortly, and I have to fix something for them to eat,” she said putting him down. He whined letting her know he was feeling rejected, turned his backside to her, and sauntered over to perch on the cat tree. “Don’t give me attitude, Powie. You get enough attention!”

She walked over to the pantry, opened the door, and stared at a jar of crunchy peanut butter, a few cans of baked beans and chicken.

She said aloud, “Looks like the ladies will have to make do with grilled cheese sandwiches today.” The doorbell rang before she could start fixing lunch. She opened it to see Francy and Vera standing on the porch with a large bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken and a six-pack of Diet Mountain Dew.

“We thought we’d bring lunch today,” Francy said as she walked inside. “Mom was hungry for coleslaw.”

“Why thank you! I was going to make grilled cheese for us, but crispy fried chicken sounds yummy,” Lainey replied. “What’s with the Diet Mountain Dew cans? You two starting to drink that now instead of coffee?”

“I won these, fair and square,” Vera stated proudly. “It’s the anniversary of the restaurant opening some twenty years ago and if you bought a bucket of chicken today, you could spin a prize wheel they had.”

Francy shook her head slightly and smiled. “Mom is the luckiest person alive. There were only three prize spaces on the wheel with nine others saying ‘Sorry, try again.’ Her spin landed on the Mountain Dew prize.”

Owner/Reviewer at A Book Lovin' Mama's Blog
I guess I should type a bio here. I'm FranJessca, or Fran for short. I'm the owner/reviewer behind A Book Lovin' Mama's Blog. I've been reading and reviewing books on my blog since leaving the Navy in 2011, and I will keep doing it as long as possible. My favorite genres will always be Romance & Fantasy, and I read every subgenre underneath those two genres. (Sorry, not a fan of nonfiction, so don't try to convince me to read it.)
My obsession with reading started over 30+ years ago when I went to my first Scholastic Book Fair and found R.L. Stine's Fear Street series. Later, I came across Anne Rice's novels at my public library when I was fourteen when my obsession with vampires started. I was the girl who preferred to be a vampire over a princess any day. My husband says I would leave him a heartbeat for a vampire that looked like Spike or Angel (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. (It's true, though, and he's accepted it.)
