Some secrets are best left untold...
Mia Lee escaped to the sleepy little town of South Boston, Virginia with the intent to be normal, and to find a place she could call home. Sadly for Mia, her past has come back with a vengeance, and forced her to flee yet again.
This time, however, she’s not alone…
Mia and Quinn are on the run, fleeing for their lives, while attempting to prove their innocence for a crime they did not commit.
But with a tainted past like Mia’s, it was inevitable that one day, it was going to catch up to her in a way she never fathomed.
One ill-fated decision leads to an explosion of unimaginable events, and now Mia and Quinn are not only running for their lives, but also, for their redemption.
Something Like Redemption is the second novel in the Something Like Normal series by Monica James. This series so far has kept me on the edge of my seat, and Something Like Redemption picks up where Something Like Normal left readers. Mia is on the run after her father and his dealer found her in the small town of South Boston, Virginia. She’s not alone because she has Quinn with her, and he’s determined to protect her, even though she’s stubborn about it, trying to push him away at every turn possible. While Mia and Quinn are on the run, Abi is trying to clear their name after what Mia’s father and dealer did that had Mia and Quinn go on the run in the first place. In the meantime, Mia and Quinn must keep running; otherwise, deal with the police catching them, or worse, have Mia’s father and his dealer find them.
I’m going to admit right away and say that Quinn was my favorite in this book and that he was there for Mia on the run and was protecting her. Mia was determined to push him away and convince him somehow to leave her because she didn’t want him to put himself at risk, but Quinn wasn’t having it. I loved how Quinn was not willing to give up on Mia and was there to protect her. He put her in her place a few times, and I was rooting for him to convince her he cared. He was stubborn when it came to expressing his feelings to her, but he did have another way of winning her over. This book has some more steamy times between the two, and it’s about time because the tension was driving me bonkers between the two. They also have a date, and it was sweet with what Quinn planned for Mia. =)
I definitely had a hard time liking Mia in this one with some of the decisions she made for herself. I understood why she did some of these things because she was struggling with what happened in South Boston, Virginia, before she left. She cares for the people who have become like family to her, and she didn’t want what happened to happen. I understand her frustrations, but she definitely could have made better decisions and stopped pushing people away, especially the ones willing to help. She ends up trusting someone in this book that she knew from her past, and she should have listened to Quinn about this person.
This book was a fast-paced read, and I felt like I was on a road trip with the characters trying to avoid the police and Mia’s dad with them. I had to remind myself I wasn’t. (Yes, I can visualize the story in my head when I’m reading.) I hope these two have some good news coming soon because they deserve it, and I hope Mia gets revenge for what her father and Phil did, not only to Hank but to what they put her through when she was little. I hope Mia and Quinn find their HEA because these two deserve it. Here’s hoping Mia gets answers in the next book with the type of cliffhanger that happened at the end of this book. Yes, this book has a cliffhanger, so I recommend reading these books in order.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable and suspenseful read, and I give this book four stars, and I anxiously wait for the third book.
