It’s Ford and Lena’s destination wedding and every professional hockey player joining them for the big day are ready to let loose. But between vacation hook-ups, one player falling into bed with the boss and a surprise guest at the resort, there’s more action—and complications—than any of them could have predicted.
Note to Readers: This story first appeared in the charitable anthology, Color Theory. It has been rewritten and expanded since its inclusion. This is a companion piece to the Hockey Hotties series but does not have to be read to enjoy any of the books in that series.
Tropical Hat Trick is a novella in the Hockey Hotties series and introduces the MCs that will appear in books four, five, and six in the series. It’s a companion piece, so you’ll still enjoy the full-length novels if you decide not to read the novella. Also, note that the novella was a part of the charitable anthology Color Theory.
Storyline/My Thoughts: I decided to listen to the novella since I love the narrators, Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchelle, that narrated it. I’m very particular with narrators, but these two make the story and characters come to life, and I can’t get enough of their voices.
I’m enjoying the sneak peeks into the next main characters in the Hockey Hotties series by Piper Rayne. There are six different POVs; each MC is at Ford and Lena’s destination wedding. They are either there for the wedding or there on vacation and happen to be at the same place as the wedding. There will be drama between Ford and one of the male MCs that gets his book next in the series. There’s one of the hockey players hooking up with his boss, and then there is a one-night stand between a hot hockey player and a girl on vacation to forget her ex-boyfriend.
I enjoyed being introduced to the new faces of the next books in Piper Rayne’s series, but it was a tease, and now I need to know what happens next. I did enjoy reading about the previous couples and what they are up to now. I wish I had more, though. I had to remind myself it’s a sneak peek to come and only a novella.
According to the Bookly app I use to track my reading stats if you want something quick to read or listen to, this book took me less than two hours to complete. It did help that I was listening to the book at 1.5x speed. I would have adjusted the speed higher, but I wanted to enjoy Joe and Maxine’s voices rather than having them go too fast.
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s a novella in the Hockey Hotties series. It introduces the MCs for Books 4/5/6 in the series.
Steam/Spice: 🌶
Genre/SubGenre(s)/Trope(s)/Element(s): Romance. Contemporary Romance. Hockey/Sports Romance. Novella in series. One Night Stands. Second Chances.
Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you enjoy Hockey Romance and a quick novella, that is an introduction to the MCs in the upcoming full-length novels to the rest of the series.
