One of my favorite movies as a kid was Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and I have always enjoyed reading romance books with a modern twist. This was the case when it came to Gwyn McNamee’s latest book, Billionaire Lumberjack’s Beauty, which is part of her interconnected standalone series, Lumberjacks in Love. I knew from the second I started the book I wasn’t going to be able to put it down, especially when you have such an intriguing, suspenseful storyline with unforgettable characters.
This Beauty and the Beast story has been uplifted to involve a grumpy, distinguished lumberjack named Weston Barker, who has been isolated for over 30+ years on Barker Mountain, and a young, beautiful woman named Callista Fox, who wants to settle her father’s debt with Weston Barker. The issue is that Weston Barker is not a friendly person, and Callista knows this before she goes up to the mountain, but she’s doing it for her father, even though he’ll be against it. Once Callista is up on the mountain, she’ll never be able to leave, but once she gets to know Weston, she’ll realize that maybe Weston isn’t as bad as everyone thinks.
This book is a dual POV, so you’ll get to know how both characters are feeling about each other. The chemistry between Weston and Callista was off the charts, especially when Weston finally gave in to the attraction between him and Callista. Callista was determined to tame the Beast, and I loved how she got him to open up and tell not only his secrets but his family’s secrets, too. Weston was very protective of Callista, and I loved that about him, even though, at first, he came off as beastly toward her. His backstory is an emotional one and I’m glad that Callista managed to get him to open up about himself.
This story was full of twists, especially at the end when everything was revealed and who actually sent Callista up the mountain. Gwyn McNamee definitely had me surprised with the ending and I definitely felt for Weston Barker afterwards. He definitely deserved some peace and a happily ever after with his Beauty on what he had to endure the last 30+ years.
This will definitely be an unforgettable installment in the Lumberjacks in Love series. I give it 4.5 stars and recommend it to readers who enjoy reading Beauty & the Beast Retellings.
