You never forget your first love. Now mine is delivering my baby…
Everyone always accuses me of being reckless. With my choices. With my heart. The baby growing inside me proves them right. So does the fact that I just got myself stuck in the middle of a hurricane with the first man I ever loved. The one who shattered me with four simple words. It was a mistake. Now he’s the only one who can keep me and my baby alive. But I’m not sure we can weather the storm without our past destroying us completely. And even if we do survive the tempest, another danger waits for us, one that that’s far worse…
Reckless Hawke is the fourth book in The Hawke Family Second Generation Series from USA Today Bestselling Author Gwyn McNamee. Grab this angsty, second chance, forced proximity, forbidden billionaire romance about a woman determined to protect her child and a man trying to guard his heart.
Reckless Hawke is the fourth installment in the Billionaires of New Orleans: The Hawke Family Second Generation series. I knew this book, which focuses on Allie and Pope, would be another emotional journey, especially after discovering that Allie is pregnant by an unknown man in an earlier book in the series. Now, I learn that Allie has feelings for Pope, who had previously pushed her away when they were younger. They are forced to come together during a hurricane, and Pope will be there to provide her with the medical attention she needs. Don’t worry; you’ll find out who the actual father is to Allie’s baby, once she does tell everyone. She has to because that person is a danger to not only herself but her baby, too.
I really enjoyed getting to know Pope in this book. I felt like I hadn’t truly understood him until now, so it was great to learn more about his character. He is a resident doctor working alongside his aunt at the hospital. He is passionate about his job, but when it comes to choosing between his career and Allie, he knows he would pick her, especially when her life and her baby’s life are in danger. He is determined to protect her and her baby at all costs. Although he initially pushed her away years ago, this man would do anything for Allie.
The family dynamics in this book regarding the Hawkes are absolutely incredible. They will protect each other at all costs, even if it means making a deal with their enemy to safeguard someone they love. I adore this family and can’t stand to see them hurt in any way. That’s why this book is quite a challenging read, but the happy ending makes it all worthwhile. Seriously, Gwyn McNamee! I can’t handle any more tears in this series. Haven’t the Hawkes been through enough? I still need to read the next book, so please tell me I won’t need any more tissues!
I give this book four stars and highly recommend it to readers who enjoy Second Chance Romance stories. However, be prepared to have tissues on hand, as this book and the others in the series are quite emotional. I strongly suggest reading these books in order since the timelines of each one continue into the next. Additionally, if you haven’t already, you might want to read the First Generation books as well.
