Vampire hunter Damon Brock's newest assignment with the Execution Underground is Rochester, New York, a city crawling with the undead. But he isn't the only hunter in town gunning for vamp blood. Tiffany Solow is fierce and ruthless when it comes to slaying the monsters that destroyed her family, and she works solo. But being alone is no longer an option when she meets the mysterious hunter who wants more than just her turf. Forced to unite against the local covens, the line between good and evil blurs when they must decide between their lifelong beliefs..and their newfound desires.
Shadow Hunter is a prequel novel to the sexy Rogue Brotherhood paranormal romance series by Kait Ballenger filled with powerful alpha males and the sexy independent women who bring them to their knees...
**Please This story contains a cliffhanger ending that will be resolved later in the series!**
The Rogue Brotherhood
1. Rogue Wolf Hunter
Shadow Hunter is the prequel to the Rogue Brotherhood series, and it gives you insight into what is to come in the series. I read this initially when it was in After Dark but read it again when Kait Ballenger re-released it this year (2023).
Storyline/My Thoughts: This book is set before a team of Execution Underground is assigned to Rochester, New York, and it introduces readers to Damon Brock, who is there to hunt down the vampire that unalived his partner/friend. Damon blames himself for what happened to his partner/best friend. The issue now is that he runs into his partner’s little sister, Tiffany Solow, who has put herself at risk by being close to the vampire he needs to unalive. He’s going to have his hands full of trying to protect her and not fall for the one woman he’s been secretly in love with since he started writing letters to her.
I loved getting to know Damon Brock in this prequel because he’s a key character in the upcoming books in the series. He may be human with powers due to the EU, but this man can handle slaying vampires, etc., but he may have met his match with Tiffany, who won’t let him baby her when it comes to taking care of herself.
I liked Tiffany’s character because although she’s been through a lot, she’s determined to get revenge on the vampire that unalived her brother. She’ll do it by putting herself in harm’s way to get close to the vampire, which could cost her.
Fair warning, which I know Kait Ballenger lets readers know in the synopsis, but I’ll say it again in my review, there is a cliffhanger at the end of the prequel. I already knew there was a cliffhanger since this was technically a reread for me, but it still got me. I need to know what happens next.
I liked how Kait Ballenger set up for the rest of the series by introducing the EU team that Damon Brock had to pick for Rochester, New York, after realizing it was worse than he thought when it came to supernatural beings there. He picks the best of the best, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series after getting snippets of each EU team member.
If you are considering reading the Rogue Brotherhood series, I recommend reading this prequel before diving into the first full-length novel. You’ll miss out on being introduced to Damon Brock and why the EU had to place a team in Rochester.
What about steam/spice? Kait brings the heat in the prequel. She’ll bring it even more in her upcoming novels in the series. My favorite thing about Kait’s books/series is that she writes alpha MMCs and strong independent FMCs that put those alpha males in their place. This is why I’m obsessed with her PNR books.
