The more lines they cross, the deeper they get…
Top cadet Lana Marsden lives by the rules. The most important rule of all: no messing around with an officer. She learned that one the hard way.
Now her only desire is to survive the grueling DEEP Training program and leave that scandalous past behind.
When she reports to Station Six amid wild rumors of erotic hazing rituals and sadomasochistic games, she’s not prepared for any of the rumors to be true—or for her insatiable attraction to Sergeant “Catch” Durant, her tattooed rebel of a trainer.
One touch from Catch, and Lana knows she’s in trouble. One night of white-hot ecstasy, and the rules melt away...
A cadet with a secret. An officer with a secret kink.A whole lot of rules to be broken.
DEEP is the first full-length novel in the DEEP Series. Contains hot men (and women) in uniform, a violated Code of Conduct, and ice cream. Intended for adult readers, 18+.

I actually came across Deep by Jaine Daimond when I was looking for a book to read for the challenge prompt to read a Sci-Fi where the main characters aren’t alien for the Romanceopoly Challenge. I was intrigued by the synopsis and borrowed it via Kindle Unlimited to read it. It definitely had some elements I liked, and it was really spicy, especially with it having BDSM. Unfortunately, I had some issues with it, which is why I’m not giving it a high rating.

My Thoughts: I enjoyed the book when reading it and loved that this book was a dual POV, but it tended to be slow-paced at times. Lana was a kickbutt heroine who was determined to complete Deep training, even with all the distractions, especially coming from her Catch. She tried to stay away from Catch, but it was inevitable that they were going to be together, even if there was a fraternization policy in place that was actually nonexistent most of the time in the story. She handled certain things well, especially when she ended up in the brig. I felt for her character because of what she endured in her past and was trying to heal from, and I also felt for her when it came to her brother. Her brother told her she couldn’t do certain things, but he could do them—hypocrite, much.

When it came to the MMC Catch, he was the one who gave me whiplash. It was obvious he had issues and had just gotten out of a relationship that he was still trying to get over. He had some issues that he needed to work out, but it didn’t go into detail much on what happened to him, except when he mentioned the previous woman a few times. One thing I couldn’t handle was reading about his relations with OW when it was obvious he was attracted to Lana, but he was trying not to go all the way with her due to her brother and other reasons. The last straw for me, when it came to Catch, was when he didn’t take into account Lana’s feelings when she admitted what she truly wanted from him, and he did something I found unforgivable and without her consent. He was keeping her at arm’s length most of the time, making her confused about how he felt, and it drove me crazy.

This book has BDSM in it, but some things were lacking when it came to a Dom/Sub relationship, as I’ve read in other BDSM romances. The main concern was what he did at the end with Lana, and I’m glad she did what she did.

This book does end in a cliffhanger and readers are left hanging on what is going to happen to the characters.

Will I read the next book? Yes, because I need to know what happens next to these two characters and if they will have a HEA. I’m hoping Catch makes up for what he did to Lana and I hope Lana makes him grovel for her because he definitely needs to do better by her.

Story Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Steam/Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the Deep Series, and I recommend reading in order, due to the cliffhanger at the end of this book.

Would I recommend this book? I may not have given this book a high rating, but other readers may enjoy it more than I did, especially readers who love Sci-Fi Erotic Romance.

I guess I should type a bio here. I'm FranJessca, or Fran for short. I'm the owner/reviewer behind A Book Lovin' Mama's Blog. I've been reading and reviewing books on my blog since leaving the Navy in 2011, and I will keep doing it as long as possible. My favorite genres will always be Romance & Fantasy, and I read every subgenre underneath those two genres. (Sorry, not a fan of nonfiction, so don't try to convince me to read it.)
My obsession with reading started over 30+ years ago when I went to my first Scholastic Book Fair and found R.L. Stine's Fear Street series. Later, I came across Anne Rice's novels at my public library when I was fourteen when my obsession with vampires started. I was the girl who preferred to be a vampire over a princess any day. My husband says I would leave him a heartbeat for a vampire that looked like Spike or Angel (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. (It's true, though, and he's accepted it.)
