Love—on the rocks….
The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that come with her.
Lydia Green doesn't know whether to scream or cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it's with his best man is another thing all together.
Just when this runaway bride has nowhere left to turn, a handsome stranger offers her a broad, muscular shoulder to cry on. Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessmen she's normally drawn to. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and is facing his own crossroads. But Lydia's already tried Mr. Right and discovered he's all wrong--maybe it's time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.
After all, what's wrong with getting dirty?
Dirty is the first book in the Dive Bar series from bestselling author Kylie Scott.
I loved Kylie Scott’s Stage Dive series and the Dive Bar series is a spin-off to that series, so I was excited to read it. I first read Dirty by Kylie Scott back in 2016 but realized I never reviewed it, so I decided it was time for a reread, especially since I need to finish reading this series.
This book is told solely from the FMC’s POV, which, generally, I prefer dual POV with romance books, but I didn’t mind with this book. It actually made me love the FMC, Lydia Green, even more, only having her POV, especially when she met the MMC, Vaughan Hewson, who helped her get over her jerk of a fiancé who cheated on her.
Yes, this book has cheating in it, but it doesn’t involve the main characters, so don’t worry. It consists of the guy that Lydia was supposed to marry, and that is how she meets Vaughan. Well, she breaks into Vaughan’s home, and he finds her in her wedding dress, crying in his shower.
I enjoyed both characters in this one, especially the female main character, Lydia, who just had her life flipped upside down. You would think she would want revenge for what happened with her ex-fiance, but she just wanted to move on from it and plan her future. Thankfully, she met Vaughan, and they became instant friends, even after breaking into his home. I loved the slow build when it came to their relationship, from strangers to friends to lovers. Vaughan was only back in his town temporarily because he planned on getting back out there for his music since he used to be in a band until they broke up. His sister and the friends he left behind are upset that he’s back and will be leaving again, especially with his sister dealing with issues at her bar. But Vaughan has made up his mind about going again, even if Lydia is falling for the guy. Lydia, in the meantime, is finding new friends and possibly family, which is definitely what she needed after heartbreak.
This was a fun read from Kylie Scott and it was much different from her Stage Dive series, which I absolutely loved. I loved that she had a character from that series appear in this book, which so happened to be my favorite character from that series.
I’m definitely planning on reading the other two books in this series, especially since Kylie opened up so many different storylines that need to be addressed. There was some family and friend drama in this one, and I need answers. I need to know if certain characters will have their own happily ever afters like Vaughan and Lydia did in Dirty.
I give this book four stars and recommend it to readers who enjoy reading fun, steamy stories about a runaway bride who meets a sexy, tattooed guitarist who treats her better than her ex-fiancé would have ever done.
