She thrives in chaos. He prefers routine. The only thing they have in common? How much they hate each other. From the author of Done and Dusted and Swift and Saddled, the highly anticipated next book in the Rebel Blue Ranch series, a small town romance featuring enemies to lovers and forced proximity.
Teddy Andersen doesn't have a plan. She's never needed one before. She's always been more of a go with the flow type of girl, but for some reason, the flow doesn't seem to be going her way this time. Her favorite vintage suede jacket has a hole in it, her sewing machine is broken, and her best friend just got engaged. Suddenly, everything feels like it's starting to change. Teddy's used to being a leader, but now she feels like she's getting left behind, wondering if the life she lives in the small town she loves is enough for her anymore.
Gus Ryder has a lot on his plate. He doesn't know what's taking care of his family's 8,000 acre ranch, or parenting his spunky six-year-old daughter, who is staying with him for the summer. Gus has always been the dependable one, but when his workload starts to overwhelm him, he slips up, and he has to admit that he can't manage everything on his own. He needs help. His little sister's best friend, the woman he can't stand, is not who he had in mind. But when no one else can step in, Teddy's the only option he's got. Teddy decides to use the summer to try and figure out what she wants out of life. Gus, on the other hand, starts to worry that he'll never find what he needs. Tempers flare, tension builds, and for the first time ever, Gus and Teddy start to see each other in a different light. As new feelings start to simmer below the surface, they must decide whether or not to act on them. Can they keep things cool? Or will both of them get burned?
It’s official: Lost and Lassoed is my favorite book in the Rebel Blue Ranch series so far. I anticipated that Teddy and Gus’s story would capture my heart after their introduction earlier in the series, but I didn’t expect to be quite so moved by it. One of my favorite tropes to read is the Enemies to Lovers trope, and Lyla Sage delivered a powerful narrative with Teddy and Gus’s book. These two characters initially couldn’t stand each other, and I was eager to discover the reasons behind their hatred for one another.
The best part is when unexpected circumstances bring these two characters together. Teddy needed a job, and Gus needed someone to help take care of his daughter. As a result, he ended up hiring his enemy to watch over her for the summer. The more time they spent together, the more their hatred transformed into deeper feelings for one another, and I was completely on board with it.
Don’t even get me started on Gus, who often comes off as grumpy or growly AF. I know he’s a big softie at heart, especially when it comes to his family and his little girl. He’s also a workaholic at his family’s ranch, and sometimes, he needs to take breaks or ask for help. I loved the family dynamics in this book and how everyone looked out for one another, particularly when it came to supporting Gus, who really needed it.
I loved Teddy and how, even when life threw her curveballs, she managed to handle them. I also appreciated her ability to deal with the grumpy Gus; their banter was always entertaining when they were together. Teddy was a significant reason why I enjoyed this book so much; she was relatable and resonated with me at various points.
The wait was definitely worth it when Gus and Teddy finally succumbed to their feelings. The chemistry in this book was exceptional, especially during the transition from enemies to lovers. After finishing this book, I can’t wait for the next installment in the series. I give it 4.5 stars and highly recommend it to readers who enjoy small-town cowboy romance.
I’m really glad I decided to read this series by Lyla Sage this year because it has truly taken over my life, especially this book featuring Gus and Teddy. I’m grateful to my local library (Libby) for providing ebooks from this series, but now I’m eager to get the physical copies for my collection because the covers are GORGEOUS and need to be displayed on my bookshelves for everyone to see.
Single/Dual POV: Dual POV
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s an interconnected standalone in the Rebel Blue Ranch Series.
Would I recommend this book? Yes. I highly recommend this book to readers who already love Lyla Sage’s works. Additionally, I suggest it to those who have been wanting to explore her books and need a little motivation to start. Don’t miss out—especially on Lost and Lassoed.
Audiobook Recommendation: If you enjoy listening to audiobooks, I highly recommend this one. The narrators did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. Jason Clarke was the perfect choice for Gus, and Samantha Brentmoor was perfect for Teddy. I loved them both!
