His past has left him scarredBut then comes a chance at redemption…
Rescuing teenage campers from a fire left Liz Kelley scarred for life. But her Wyoming town isn’t all she left behind. Fire marshal Sawyer Powell can’t forgive himself for failing to protect her that terrible night. Fifteen years later, a string of suspicious fires brings Liz—now an FBI agent—home. Working the case together gives the former lovers a second chance—but also makes them a killer’s target.
I’ve been really into Romantic Suspense books lately, and I had high expectations for Juno Rushdan’s latest series, Cowboy State Lawmen: Duty and Honor. It’s a spin-off of her Cowboy State Lawmen series, which I haven’t read yet, but I’m definitely planning to read soon. The first book in her spin-off series, Wyoming Mountain Investigation, was precisely what I was looking for in a Romantic Suspense novel. From the first page to the last, I was fully engrossed in the story as the characters tried to unravel the mystery behind a series of suspicious fires in a small town in Wyoming.
Storyline: Liz Kelley is now an FBI agent and has been assigned to assist with investigating suspicious fires in her hometown. She ends up working with the Fire Marshal, Sawyer Powell, who happens to be her ex-boyfriend from fifteen years ago. Back then, a suspicious fire occurred, leaving Liz emotionally and physically scarred, and Sawyer has never forgiven himself for not protecting her that night of the fire. Now, both of them are assigned to uncover who is behind the suspicious fires around town again, and they suspect it’s the same person who harmed Liz years ago.
This book was filled with full of action-packed scenes that kept me on the edge of my seat due to the danger the characters, but I knew they could handle it. I loved that this was a Second-Chance Romance story where the characters Liz and Sawyer were reunited after so long away from one another. Sawyer still had feelings for Liz, and he was determined to win her over again, even though Liz hesitated at first due to her not living in Wyoming anymore. I loved how they worked together to figure out who was behind the fires and finally got justice for what happened fifteen years ago.
I give this book five stars and can’t wait to read more from this series by Juno Rushdan.
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s an interconnected standalone in a series.
Would I recommend this book/series? Yes. If you are looking for a heart-pounding, action-packed Romantic Suspense, look no further than this book or any book by Juno Rushdan.
