They tried to take Margo from me—but I will stop at nothing to keep her safe.
Hounded by a relentless stalker, my overbearing uncle, and a detective who seems to think I’m guilty of a crime, my only solace lies with Margo.
I’ve only just found her.
Forgiven her.
And the threat of that all being taken away eats at me.But as she remembers our shared history, and the blood that lies between us, our present begins to unravel.
Some danger cannot be avoided.
And when the stalker makes their final move, only one of us will be left standing.Author's Note
This book was previously published, but has since undergone major edits and changes while still remaining true to the original story. This is the final book in the trilogy.
Wicked Promises is the final installment of Caleb and Margo’s Trilogy within the Fallen Royals series. In this book, readers will finally learn the identity of the person who has been stalking Margo and sending her texts since book one. Additionally, the truth about what happened seven years ago between Margo and Caleb’s family will be revealed. I was one reader who was eager to finally have the conclusion to these two characters’ storyline because if anyone deserved a happy ending, it was Caleb and Margo. (They had endured more than enough.)
This book continues the story from the previous installment, with Caleb determined to uncover who is targeting Margo after the troubling event that involved her and her foster father. In this book, Caleb is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to Margo’s safety, showcasing a remarkable transformation from his character in the first book. I also appreciated that his friends joined him in protecting Margo as they began to piece together the truth. These were the same guys who bullied Margo in the first book, yet by the end, they would go to great lengths to protect her.
I loved how Margo had grown since the first book. She was determined to uncover the truth not only about what happened seven years ago but also about who was currently harassing her. Eventually, her memories will resurface, leading her to discover the real culprits from both the past and the present. Let’s just say that no one will be able to stop Margo from uncovering the truth, especially with the help of Caleb, his friends, and her friend Riley.
I was relieved that the truth was finally being revealed while reading the last book, as it meant Margo and Caleb could finally have their happy ending after all this time. (It was about time.) I did manage to figure out who was behind the stalking of Margo, thanks to the clues I gathered from both this book and the previous one. Despite this, it didn’t diminish my enjoyment of the story. I also picked up on who was responsible for what happened seven years ago to Caleb’s father, and let’s just say it will lead to a significant betrayal. I know I was upset with the characters when everything came together.
What I loved most about this trilogy were the Easter eggs that brought back nostalgic memories of her Hockey Gods series. That series will always be a favorite of mine, and I might need to reread it after S. Massery re-releases the rest of her Fallen Royals series.
Overall, this trilogy captivated me from beginning to end, and I give the final installment of Caleb and Margo’s story four stars. I’m eager to read more in this series, especially since S. Massery has already introduced other key characters who will be getting their own books. I can’t believe it took me so long to dive into this series! One of the things I love about S. Massery is her ability to write Bully Romances and Enemies to Lovers, which are my two favorite tropes. This trilogy featuring Caleb and Margo delivered both of those themes perfectly and I need more like these to read.
Single/Dual POV: Dual POV (But, does have a couple of other POVs thrown into the story this time)
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s the third book in the Fallen Royals Series and the last book in Caleb & Margo’s Trilogy and needs to be read in order.
Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you enjoy reading Dark Bully High School Romances, then you should read the Fallen Royals series.
Similar books/series: Rina Kent’s Royal Elite series and Corium University series by C. Hallman. Check out S. Massery’s Dark Bully Hockey Romance series, Hockey Gods, too.
