Maxwell has finally met an opponent that he can't best in this new football romance from the author of Fumbled.
According to Brynn Larson, Maxwell Lewis is more trouble than he's worth. She doesn't care if he's a football god with a rock-hard body that brings most women to their knees. After an encounter that ends poorly, she's not interested in giving him a second chance. The last thing Brynn expects is for him to turn up at her bar months later, hat in hand. It doesn't matter if he brings more customers to her business--she's still not going on a date with him.
Maxwell knows he made a mistake. He'd been waiting to make his move on Brynn since the day he laid eyes on her and he was finally ready to go for it until he screwed up. He wishes he could tell her the truth about what happened that night, but he just can't. He can't tell anyone, so he'll make amends and hope she'll forgive him.
Brynn's not like other women, though. Playing for the Mustangs doesn't impress her and gifts make her scoff. Max will have to bring his A game if he hopes to win her over.

Blitzed is the third interconnected standalone in Alexa Martin’s Playbook series. I’ve been enjoying this football romance series by Alexa Martin, especially since she writes from her experience as a football player’s wife. Blitzed was one book in the series that I had been eagerly anticipating, especially since it focused on Maxwell Lewis and Brynn Larson. Unfortunately, this book did not meet my expectations, and I had some issues with it.

I appreciated some aspects of the story, one of them being Brynn was a successful business owner who everyone admired and looked up to, especially other women who wanted to be like her one day. She also had an amazing friendship group that was incredibly supportive of her, and I loved reading about their get-togethers. Brynn’s friends stood by her side, even when Maxwell caused trouble initially. However, they also encouraged her to mend things with the MMC, Maxwell, as he was genuinely trying to make things right. Maxwell was actually the whole reason why I finished this book because he was someone I adored, even after what happened in the beginning. He was such a sweet guy who admired and loved Brynn, especially with how successful she was with her business. But I definitely believed he deserved better, in my opinion.

The main issue I had with this book was the miscommunication between the characters, especially toward the end. Brynn’s lack of trust in Maxwell was very frustrating. She chose to believe information from someone she didn’t know rather than listen to Maxwell, who had warned her about this person. Additionally, Brynn’s jealousy toward another woman led her to push a toxic individual onto her. It was clear that Brynn needed to address her own issues before she got into a relationship with Maxwell.

Overall, this book gets three stars. I wish I could have enjoyed this story more because it had great potential. However, the miscommunication and Brynn’s failure to heed Maxwell’s warning really bothered me.

Single/Dual POV: Single POV

Standalone or Part of Series: It’s an interconnected standalone in the Playbook series.

Would I recommend this book? I still recommend this book, even though I gave it a low rating. If you enjoy this series or love Football Romance stories and don’t mind a bit of miscommunication, then this book might be for you.

I guess I should type a bio here. I'm FranJessca, or Fran for short. I'm the owner/reviewer behind A Book Lovin' Mama's Blog. I've been reading and reviewing books on my blog since leaving the Navy in 2011, and I will keep doing it as long as possible. My favorite genres will always be Romance & Fantasy, and I read every subgenre underneath those two genres. (Sorry, not a fan of nonfiction, so don't try to convince me to read it.)
My obsession with reading started over 30+ years ago when I went to my first Scholastic Book Fair and found R.L. Stine's Fear Street series. Later, I came across Anne Rice's novels at my public library when I was fourteen when my obsession with vampires started. I was the girl who preferred to be a vampire over a princess any day. My husband says I would leave him a heartbeat for a vampire that looked like Spike or Angel (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. (It's true, though, and he's accepted it.)
