Her boss wants to make Jade hers. Can she handle the heat without getting burned?
Small-town girl Jade Fisher has sacrificed everything for her dream of a high-powered career in Los Angeles. Fresh out of grad school, she’s one step away from landing the perfect job as executive assistant to Simone Weiss, LA’s hotel queen. So when her friend invites her to the opening night of Club Velvet, a luxury club for women to explore their wildest desires, Jade decides to let loose a little, just this once.
She isn’t expecting an encounter with a commanding older woman who makes her heart race and her body burn. And she’s even more surprised to come face to face with the same woman days later. Simone Weiss. Her new boss.
CEO by day, part owner of Club Velvet by night, Simone built her hotel empire from the ground up. She knows what she wants. She’ll stop at nothing to get it. And now, she has her sights set on her curvaceous new assistant.
One sensual night of surrender is all it takes for Jade to fall under her spell. Neither woman is looking for romance. Both bear scars from the past. But the more Simone awakens Jade’s submissive desires, the harder it becomes to ignore the feelings between them. Can love conquer all, even the walls around their hearts?
After reading Boss of Her from Anna Stone’s new series, Club Velvet, I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from this series. I’m still fairly new to Anna Stone’s books, and she was the first author I read last year who introduced me to the Domme/Sub dynamic in an FF Romance. Before that, I had read BDSM only in MF, MM, MMF, MFM, and FFM Romances.
Storyline: Jade is invited by her friend to attend Velvet Club, but she doesn’t know what type of club it is until she’s inside. She decides to stick around, even though she’s never attended a club like this before. She’s exploring the club, and before she knows it, she’s being hit on, and the person is not taking the hint that she’s not interested. This is when an older woman comes forward to save Jade. Jade never expected to see the beautiful older woman again from Club Velvet until she’s faced with her during her job interview. The beautiful older woman who saved her at Club Velvet is Simone Weiss, LA’s Hotel Queen and soon-to-be Jade’s new boss. It’s going to be hard to work with Simone when Jade is attracted to her and knows exactly what Simone can offer her.
Thoughts: I love reading forbidden romance storylines, and this one was a page-turner, especially when you have a boss and an employee who can’t seem to stop thinking about one another in a certain way. Simone and Jade were meant to find one another, especially when both weren’t really looking for a relationship, and both were goal-driven. Simone was the perfect Domme, easing Jade into the Domme/Sub relationship dynamic. It is not like other BDSM romance storylines I’ve read where the dynamic is thrown at one of the characters, and they become overwhelmed by it. Anna Stone definitely touched on all the important things that come with the duties between a Domme/Sub dynamic.
This book was a spicy read, but not too spicy. It was more sensual because Simone was easing Jade into the lifestyle. Simone was also showing Jade how she should be treated in a relationship, and she didn’t even realize it because it’s not revealed until later why Jade had issues falling in love again. The same goes for Simone because she had trust issues but for different reasons. Simone was very relatable when it came to her trust issues and what happened to her because I went through something similar as a kid. I’m glad that she was able to find love with Jade and vice versa. They both healed each other in the long run.
This book does have a third-act breakup, which I know is needed since it makes the story, but I’m a reader who isn’t fond of breakups when the two characters could easily work them out. Thankfully, there is a grand gesture, and this one may have topped all the grand gestures I’ve read in romance stories. It was well done, and I was here for it.
This book gets four stars from me. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series, especially when Anna Stone introduces the other club owners in this book. I can’t wait to read how the other club owners find their HEAs.
