I can’t decide if my new summer tenant—a devastatingly handsome hockey player and single dad—is the answer to my problems or the start of a new one.
When big-city developers threaten to buy up my small town, I need to save the rental cottage next door from demolition. I have a plan . . . until Daniel Sutton checks in.
Six-four, a face chiseled by the gods, and a body built by a career on the ice, I’m knocked sideways. He’s charming with me and adorable with his son. And when we touch, it’s electric.
But two things change everything. The pipes break in the cottage, and his agent calls. Before I can stop myself, I’m offering him a place to stay, and Daniel is offering me the answer to my problems. He’ll buy the cottage for me if I help him clean up his reputation.
Sounds simple enough. But when I start to fall in love with him, even though I know he’s leaving in a few months, it’s suddenly more complicated than ever.
I’m willing to take a chance on us and pour my heart into a letter. But with him skating on thin ice, he’s going to have to sacrifice something—me or his career.
I just hope XOXO, Summer isn’t the last thing I ever get to say to him.
XOXO, Summer is the first installment in S.L. Scott’s The Season Sisters series, and it’s a perfect summer read. It’s such a sweet story that I had a hard time putting it down. The second I started it, I knew it would brighten my day to read Summer and Daniel’s romance. It also introduces the rest of the sisters, who will get their own books in the series, and yes, each is named after a season, which I found unique and different.
The MMC, Daniel Sutton, decides he needs time with his son, away from the busy life of New York and hockey, and what better way than to rent a small cottage in a small town for an analog summer. The issue is that he never expects to find romance on vacation with someone who definitely reminds him of summer. He even gives her the nickname Sunshine, which is perfect for the heroine once you get to know her in the story.
The FMC, Summer, is trying to do everything she can to save the cottages she helps manage, especially when they are at risk of being sold to the developers destroying her small town. She’ll do anything to save the cottages, and the best way to do it is to make sure the tenants have a great vacation, plus also convince the person who currently owns them to give her a chance. Unfortunately, a mishap happens at the cottage, and now Summer is at risk of losing the tenants if she doesn’t get everything squared away. What she doesn’t expect is to find love with the tenant, Daniel, who is hard not to fall in love with, especially when he’s such a good-looking guy, an amazing father to his adorable little son, and very supportive of Summer and what she wants in life.
Seriously, this book put me in my summer feels, and I enjoyed everything about it: the storyline, the characters, the romance between the MCs, and the secondary characters that ended up stealing the spotlight at times. I loved Daniel’s determination to give his son an analog summer and also deal with the issue of his hockey career. He had to prove he still could play hockey, and he definitely had Summer on his side to do it. I loved how he fell hard for Summer, even if they had an initial rocky start because he didn’t listen to her right away.
I loved Summer because of her sunshiny personality and how she handled not only Daniel, but also others. She proved she could handle anything when it came to the cottage issue, as well as other things that happened. When Daniel and Summer get together, though, it’s even better because these two complement each other well. Yes, their romance is instant, and it’s quick, but it’s true love, and I could feel it while reading their book. These two were meant to meet one another, even if it was unexpected. Daniel’s summer vacation turned into finding love with Summer, along with a family that included a grandmother and three sisters who welcomed him and his son.
I mentioned earlier that the secondary characters may have stolen the book from the MCs at times, especially Roman, Daniel’s son, and Summer’s grandmother, Dolly. They had me smiling and laughing, especially when Roman kept his father on his toes. I also loved the Season Sisters and how they played an intricate role in Summer and Daniel’s relationship developing. They loved their big sister and wanted her to be happy. Sisterly love was definitely shown in the pages of this book.
Overall, such a fun, sweet, summery, and steamy story, and I give it 4.5-stars. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series and learning who will win over the other Season Sisters’ hearts.
POV: Dual POV (First Person)
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s an interconnected standalone in The Season Sisters series.

My obsession with reading started over 30+ years ago when I went to my first Scholastic Book Fair and found R.L. Stine's Fear Street series. Later, I came across Anne Rice's novels at my public library when I was fourteen when my obsession with vampires started. I was the girl who preferred to be a vampire over a princess any day. My husband says I would leave him a heartbeat for a vampire that looked like Spike or Angel (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. (It's true, though, and he's accepted it.)
