Book 1: Big Sky Deception

Big Sky Deception is the first book in B.J. Daniel’s Silver Stars of Montana Series. It’s also my first book by this author, and definitely not my last. After reading mostly Contemporary and Paranormal Romances this year, I wanted something different, so I picked this from my TBR pile. I borrowed it from the library via Libby and finished it quickly.

This fast-paced murder mystery kept me guessing who killed the ventriloquist in a small Montana town. When the MMC is introduced, Sheriff Brandt Parker has to handle calling the next of kin of the ventriloquist and finds it odd that she’s more worried about the dummy than solving the actual murder of her father. As soon as she gets to Montana, her focus is on the dummy, and she’s not the only one looking for it, but the more she looks into her father and the more she realizes he was keeping things from her. With the help of the handsome sheriff, Molly and he investigate the case of her father and his missing dummy, and the more she discovers, the more danger mounts around her. Brandt, though, is determined to protect her at all costs, especially when their connection deepens.

This was the exact story I needed after reading so many Contemporary/Paranormal Romances this year. I enjoyed this quick Romantic Suspense from B.J. Daniels. I found myself trying to discover the truth along with the FMC, Molly Lockhart’s growing curiosity about her father’s past, and her shifting priorities. She went from simply retrieving the dummy to uncovering the reasons behind his true intentions and the secrets he had been hiding from her. She also finds out why he was in Montana in the first place, and it’s not all rainbows and sunshine. Then, the developing instant connection between Molly and Brandt added emotional stakes while reading. I enjoyed getting to know these two characters. Their connection is quick, and I definitely believe in love at first sight when it came to these two. When it came to discovering who killed her father, I thought I had it figured out. The story seemed to point to one character, but the ending took me by surprise. I definitely wasn’t expecting it.

Overall, I loved this book, and I give it 4.5 stars. I look forward to reading more from this series and author. If you want a fast-paced murder mystery in a small town, check out this book by B.J. Daniels.
