four-stars

I fell for the enemy.A man whose actions resemble the devil so closely it frightens me.
We were meant to hate each other. To despise and detest.
But his appeal is so much greater than the playboy smile and body built for sin.
What I'm doing is wrong. What I'm feeling is immoral.
Because he's the head of the Portland mafia. And I'm the Fed who promised to take him down.

Torian is the third installment in Eden Summer’s Hunting Her series. I’m currently behind on this series, but I’m catching up gradually, especially since the storylines are so gripping, and I’m determined to finish reading this series. Here was one reader who was eager to read Torian’s book, especially since he has played a significant role since the first installment in the series. Torian is what I would consider a morally grey character because he’s grown up in a mafia family, and he’s done questionable things, especially in this book.

I really enjoyed Torian’s character and his point of view. He is very protective of his family, especially his sisters, and has no interest in his father and what he’s doing. He is determined to take his father down, even if that means showing the FBI agent just how far he is willing to go. I was genuinely surprised that he was falling for an FBI agent, especially someone like Anissa Fox, who was determined to take him down.

I didn’t care for Anissa at first when I met her because she just couldn’t accept that Torian wasn’t like his father. She’ll argue and fight back with Torian at every turn until she eventually meets Torian’s father face to face and realizes that Torian isn’t like him. She was all about her job instead of seeing reasoning.

This is truly an Enemies to Lovers storyline where the heroine can’t stand the hero, and she has every right to feel that way. Torian feels the same about Anissa; he can’t stand her either because she won’t let go of the fact that he isn’t his father, and she’s also his enemy for being an FBI agent. Their attraction for one another is forbidden, too, and eventually, it becomes undeniable that they give in to that attraction, even though they continue to have animosity. It’s a whirlwind of back and forth between these two, especially towards the end of the book.

I really enjoyed the storyline of this book, even though it included some serious dark moments, so be sure to check the trigger warnings before reading. I can’t believe Eden Summers left me with a cliffhanger! Yes, there’s a significant cliffhanger, especially since Torian and Anissa do not achieve a happily ever after in this installment. They have several issues to resolve, particularly regarding what occurred at the end of the book. I need them together, though.

Overall, this was another suspenseful read, and I’m giving it four stars. I can’t believe I have to read two more books in this series before I can continue with Torian and Anissa’s storyline, but I trust Eden Summers and where she’s taking me. I’m particularly curious about Luca’s storyline next, especially since there’s a certain heroine who captures his attention in this book.

Cliffhanger: Yes

Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the Hunting Her series and I recommend reading these books in order. This one in particular ends in a cliffhanger and Torian and Anissa’s story will continue in the sixth book in the series, Cole.

Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you enjoy reading Mafia Romance stories with morally grey heroes and an enemies-to-lovers storyline, then check out this book.

What to Expect:
✔️Mafia Romance
✔️Enemies to Lovers
✔️Forced Proximity
✔️Slow Burn
✔️FBI Agent Heroine vs. Criminal/Mafia Boss’s Son

I guess I should type a bio here. I'm FranJessca, or Fran for short. I'm the owner/reviewer behind A Book Lovin' Mama's Blog. I've been reading and reviewing books on my blog since leaving the Navy in 2011, and I will keep doing it as long as possible. My favorite genres will always be Romance & Fantasy, and I read every subgenre underneath those two genres. (Sorry, not a fan of nonfiction, so don't try to convince me to read it.)
My obsession with reading started over 30+ years ago when I went to my first Scholastic Book Fair and found R.L. Stine's Fear Street series. Later, I came across Anne Rice's novels at my public library when I was fourteen when my obsession with vampires started. I was the girl who preferred to be a vampire over a princess any day. My husband says I would leave him a heartbeat for a vampire that looked like Spike or Angel (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. (It's true, though, and he's accepted it.)
