From NY Times and USA Today Bestselling author KM Moronova comes a brand-new compelling and addictive dark romance in her Dark Forces world.
Dark. Deadly. Irresistible.
Cameron Mortem has a problem―he can't stop killing his partners. Officially labeled clinically insane, he's also one of the most lethal assets in the Dark Forces, a brutal underground military operation built on obedience, survival, and silence. But an experimental drug has fractured his control, making him a liability whenever someone else is on the field. As punishment, he's thrown back into the Under Trials―a merciless boot camp designed to break the weak and sharpen the ruthless.
His one directive? Don't kill the new girl.
Emery Maves narrowly escapes a death sentence after her own brutal crimes, only to find herself forced into the same violent world. Assigned to Cameron, she's expected to survive the Trials and her partner's unstable nature. But Emery quickly realizes there's more to Cameron than bloodlust and body counts. Beneath the madness lies a terrifying allure―and a strange, dangerous tenderness.
As the Trials push them to their limits, Emery must navigate the brutal demands of the Dark Forces while resisting the pull of a man who could just as easily kill her as protect her. And Cameron must fight the one urge he's never been able to overcome.
Their bond is intoxicating, chaotic, and born of violence. And if it doesn't destroy them both, it might just save them.

Your Knife, My Heart is the first book in K.M. Moronova’s Dark Forces Duology, and this was the first book I’ve read from this author. It’s a Dark Military Romance, and it truly pushes boundaries. The prologue alone had me in shock when it came to being introduced to the hero of the story. He is not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.

The heroine, Emery Maves, meant to be executed for the murders she committed for her family, instead enters training for the Dark Forces (which she’s forced into). Her partner is the same hero, Cameron, from the prologue, and he rarely keeps a partner for long. They team up during training and trials to see if they can work together. Emery must survive not just the trials but also her partnership with Cameron.

This book kept me entertained, but it definitely was brutal and intense at times when reading. I’ve read Dark Romance many times, but I lean more toward Mafia Romance, MC Romance, and Fantasy Romance when it comes to Dark Romance. I appreciated the dual POV, which let me see both main characters’ perspectives and feelings. I wasn’t sure what to think of Cameron; if I were Emery, I would have run for the hills to get away from him, but he did protect her. However, there were times Emery handled her own because she is a trained assassin, and I liked that about her.

Both characters have physical and psychological trauma, which makes them similar and explains why they have a romantic connection, somewhat, even if both don’t want it at first (especially Cameron). It really took me some time to trust Cameron with Emery, which you’ll understand if you read this book. I still don’t know if I can trust him, even after the ending.

I loved how fast-paced the book was, and it didn’t take me long to read. However, the author’s writing style threw me off at times because it was disjointed. One moment, the character is in one scene, and the next, they are in a different one. I had to reread sentences to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

Overall, it was an entertaining read, and I give it 3.5 stars. This is a Dark Romance, so it contains triggering content for some readers. Make sure to read the CW before starting. K.M. Moronova leaves readers with a cliffhanger, which will have readers like me wanting to read the next book. I need to know what happens next with these characters, especially after everything they endured. Will they get a well-deserved HEA? And what do the Dark Forces have in store for them next? One other thing, I really don’t like what they are doing to Cameron in this book, and who’s in charge of the trials and Dark Forces.

Cliffhanger: Yes

POV: First Person (Dual POV)

Standalone Or Part of Series: It’s the first book in the Dark Forces Duology (Cameron & Emery’s Story)

Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you enjoy fast-paced Dark Military Romance with a morally grey hero and a kickbutt heroine who is forced to partner with the hero, then check out this book. If you’ve read K.M. Moronova’s books before, then you’ll enjoy this book.

What to Expect:
✔️Dark Military Romance

About K.M. Moronova

New York Times, USA Today, and #1 International bestselling author K. M. Moronova has enjoyed telling dreary stories as far as she can remember. She adores reading and writing dark-themed, romantic books with plot twists and emotional turns. Often, she is found drying flowers in her study or drinking tea while relaxing in her garden. She loves spending time with her partner, exploring the forest, and envisioning more devastating stories to tell.
