I’ve been faithful long enough.
I never claimed to be a good man, but I’ve always done what was expected of me.
Find a nice girl. Get married. Have children.
That was my duty as a good Christian man.
And everything was going as planned when I met Briar.
Beautiful. Charismatic. Sexy.
But marriage is hard, and after seven years, I feel like I’m failing.
Then, a figure from my past enters the picture.
Dean Sheridan is cocky and charming. When this twenty-five-year-old needs a place to stay, I should turn him away—especially after I notice the spark between him and my wife. But I don’t.
When I pressure him about his relationship with Briar, he does the last thing I expect.
He dares me.
He thinks he can take what’s mine.
And if it’s a challenge he wants, it’s a challenge he’ll get.
What started as a game becomes so much more.
Between them. Between us.
This isn’t how normal couples behave.
The games we’re playing are dangerous.
And the roles we’re playing are far more.
But God help me, I can’t seem to stop.
What we’re doing is wrong, but it feels so right, and before long, I don’t recognize the good husband I used to be.
It’s taken me a while to type up this review because I needed some time to gather my thoughts after finishing The Home Wrecker. I’m going to admit right away that I’m a reader who usually avoids the Cheating Trope, but I’m glad I trusted Sara Cate, and she may have convinced me to read more of this trope.
The Home Wrecker will definitely be one book that I will find myself thinking about years down the road, especially when you have memorable characters like Briar, Caleb, and Dean. Briar and Caleb’s story tugged at my heartstrings, especially when their marriage was in crisis. All it took was having someone like Dean move into the apartment over their garage to help save their marriage and also have Dean find a family that showed him love.
I love angst in my books, and this was definitely the case with this story. Dean still harbored horrible feelings for Caleb and didn’t want to be around him after what Caleb did to his little brother years ago, but he was forced to due to his house burning down. Caleb didn’t trust Dean to be around his wife due to Dean’s job and also because Dean was such an attractive guy that even Caleb felt something for him. Then, there was Briar, who wasn’t happy and was dealing with a lot of stress from what she and Caleb were dealing with, and she was finding herself attracted to Dean and what he could offer her. This book also continues what happened to the Goode family in The Anti-Hero, which, if you haven’t read that book, it’s definitely a must-read.
I want to own them and touch them and claim them and fuck them–both of them.
This book was another emotional and spicy one that I had a hard time putting down, especially when I needed to escape reality for a bit. Each Goode Brother is learning something about themselves and freeing themselves from the confines of the one person who is toxic in their lives. (You’ll know who I’m referring to when you read the first book and this book.) I loved Caleb in this book and how he found himself. Caleb’s wife was there supporting him, too. I loved that Caleb found himself with Dean, who definitely brought the best out in him. Dean was the star of the book, not only for what he did for Caleb and Briar, but how he loved Caleb and Briar’s daughter, even though he didn’t like kids. I won’t even mention the part where I cried the most in this book and it involved Dean and his father and how Caleb and Briar were there for him because I’ll start crying again.
When it came to Briar and what she was going through, I wanted to read the book and comfort her. She had so much stress on her shoulders, and she just wanted her marriage back like it was and the romance back. She had every right to change her mind in the end. I’m so glad her husband was there and supportive of her.
I could go on about this book, but I don’t want to risk spoiling anything. This book is a must-read, even if you are not a fan of the cheating trope, trust me, Sara Cate will change your mind, like she did me. If you read her Salacious Players’ Club, then you’ll enjoy this series because it has BDSM, and you know it’s going to be spicy. Sara Cate is always bringing the spice up a level each time for each book and I can’t wait for the next book in the series now after reading this one.
Order this book now and read it when it is released because you won’t regret it.
