I have to say, the cover of Wolf.e by Paisley Hope caught my eye right away and made me want to read it. I’d already read some of Paisley Hope’s Silver Pine Ranch books, so I was excited to try something darker from her, especially since this one is a Motorcycle Club Romance.
Sadly, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I hoped. Neither main character stood out to me, and I found both of them pretty unlikeable. Brinley, the FMC, is a bit of a goodie two-shoes at first, but changes dramatically in this book once she reconnects with a friend who’s getting married to someone in the motorcycle club. That’s when she meets Gabriel, the MMC, and feels an instant attraction to him, even though she knows she should keep her distance.
I didn’t like Gabriel or the way he treated Brinley. He seemed more like a walking red flag than a morally grey character. Even though he’s the club president, he’s never been in a relationship before, but suddenly he wants one with Brinley, even though she is the complete opposite of him. I didn’t believe his character could do a 360 with Brinley. Then, there was Brinley, who was very judgemental to others around her that just rubbed me the wrong way. Even if eventually she changed, I just couldn’t connect with her.
It felt odd that Gabriel was the one who needed saving, with Brinley stepping in to help him. I just couldn’t believe Brinley saving him, even if he trained her.
I also didn’t feel like Gabriel and Brinley had a real connection or should have been in a relationship at all. It felt more controlling and even a bit abusive, especially on Gabriel’s part, like I mentioned before. I honestly don’t know why Brinley liked him. If I were her, I would have left. Some of their scenes together were just cringeworthy. She would have been better off staying single after breaking up with her awful ex at the start of the book.
I did like the parts of the plot that focused on the club and meeting the secondary characters, who might get their own stories later. Other than that, nothing else really stood out. At times, the pacing felt off, and the dialogue was a bit much. The drama between clubs wasn’t the main focus, and I think I would have liked the book more if it was.
Overall, I’d give this book 2.5 stars. Even though it wasn’t for me, other readers might enjoy it more. I’m not sure at this time if I will pick up the next book in the series. Yes, the covers are gorgeous, but I’m afraid that I’ll have the same issues I had with this book with the next book. I think I’ll stick with Paisley Hope’s other series.
