"Nothing, not even Devil's Night, was more magical, because tonight was the longest night of the year. It was special."
The clock at St. Killian’s chimes as whispers float in the dark staircase above.
Snow falls from the black sky beyond the windows, and candles glow, the flames lighting up the longest night of the year.Devil’s Night isn’t the only holiday we celebrate. Tonight, we’re pulling on a different mask. Some call it Midwinter.Others call it Yule.We call it Fire Night.***FIRE NIGHT is a 28K word holiday novella.
Devil’s Night is not the only holiday that Michael, Kai, Damon, and Will celebrate. They also celebrate Fire Night (or Yule/Midwinter), but this time, it’s with their wives and their children, and they are no kids or college-aged. They are older and have to deal with their own kids getting in trouble while they try to celebrate Fire Night together.
I loved getting a follow-up novella of my favorite Devil’s Night characters and what they are up to now and with their kids this time. Each chapter is told in a different POV: Kai, Damon, Will, and Michael, and at the very end, another person gets a POV, too. There are steamy moments between the couples and festive moments due to it being Fire Night, and there’s also suspense. Here I thought Damon would have the most trouble with his kids due to his personality, but no, there’s Kai and Banks kid who tops them all.
I felt like this was a tease of a novella because I was left aching for a second generation of the Devil’s Night series. I would have loved to read a series with Michael, Kai, Damon, and Will having to deal with their children in full-length novels because I know the kids would be a handful, but they could handle them. Unfortunately, Penelope Douglas has mentioned they are not doing a spin-off, which I’m sad about, but I am thankful that Penelope is writing other books that I can devour and love just as much as this series. This novella just reminded me that I’m sad this series has ended, and I’ll never get to experience reading it for the first time again.
