He loved only one, but he was never what she needed, never the right man for her. The best thing he ever did was walk away from Taylor before he destroyed her life. Proven over and over again, most recently when he ended up tricked by his own
government into taking an “immunization” that turned him into something not quite human, a super soldier, a Zodius. But as a threat develops that could destroy the world, he believes one beautiful, talented scientist might be able to help them find much-needed answers. That woman is Taylor. The problem is that the enemy knows this, too, and he must get to her before they do. And once he finds her, will she hate him too much to accept his help and to offer hers? Because what neither of them can know, is that they might just mean life or death to each other.
He Is Jensen Part One is the fourth installment in Lisa Renee Jones’s Windwalkers series. If you’ve read He Is Creed Part One through Part Three, you’ve already been introduced to Jensen. I’m one reader who has been eager to learn more about Jensen’s background and how he became a GTECH. Additionally, I wanted to find out how he got into hacking.
I’m really enjoying this series by Lisa Renee Jones, which features super soldiers with special powers. Jensen is one of these soldiers, but fourteen years ago, he was just a teenage boy excited about going on a date with the girl he had a crush on. Unfortunately, on the night of the date, the government showed up at his door and gave him two options. He chose the one that would keep him out of trouble.
Fast forward fourteen years, and he is reunited with the girl he was supposed to go on a date with, only to find her in danger, facing the very person he and the Renegades are trying to take down: Julian. Layla and Jensen end up being prisoners together under Julian, and Julian is determined to have Layla help him with his drug, ICE, the very drug that Jensen and the Renegades want to take off the streets before it’s too late.
This is another fast-paced, action-packed installment in the Windwalkers series that kept me engaged on my Kindle. I especially loved the Second Chance Romance storyline between Jensen and Layla, which is one of my favorite tropes to read. I’m the kind of reader who roots for characters to get a second chance at love, especially when the MMC feels terrible for not revealing the truth to the FMC. In this case, Jensen deeply regrets not sharing what happened to him, and it’s clear that he wants to make it up to Layla.
Jensen is portrayed as an alpha male who will do anything to protect Layla, even though she is capable of handling herself. I’m eager to learn more about her in the next installment because she is a character who is sure to keep everyone, including Jensen, on their toes.
Fair warning: this book ends with a cliffhanger, and I hope we won’t have to wait long for the next installment because I need to find out what happens next. Will the Renegades ever succeed in taking down Julian? I certainly hope so, as he’s been nothing but a nuisance throughout the previous books.
Cliffhanger: Yes.
Single/Dual/Multi-POV: Multi-POV.
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the Windwalkers series. (NOTE: If you haven’t read He Is Creed Part One through Part Three, you should be okay to read He Is Jensen Part One, but for a better understanding of the world and characters, it’s best to read the previous books in the Windwalkers series.)
