You can run from the grave, but you can’t hide…
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She’s still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.
Being around Bones awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline rush of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head – wanted: dead or half-alive – means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard Cat tries to keep things professional between them, she’ll find that desire lasts forever … and Bones won’t let her get away again.
First Time Read: 2024
Second Time Read: 2026
One Foot in the Grave is the second book in Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series. This year, I’m making it a point to finish this series, especially since I’m participating in the Readalong hosted by UTCBookBlog. The MCs and even the secondary characters with the storyline have me in a chokehold right now.
It’s all Jeaniene Frost’s fault because she had me hooked from the first page of the first book. Now, after finishing the second book on a road trip, I’m even more hooked, and I don’t ever want to read other books right now because of it. This series will definitely be one I reread many times. That’s how much I love it already, and it’s only the second book.
I was a little nervous reading the second book in the series after the end of the first. Cat is not with Bones at the beginning of this book, but I knew eventually, he would appear. Cat’s actually working for a government agency in this book, and she’s using the skills that Bones taught her to go after rogue undead creatures with her team. The issue in this book is that Cat is being targeted for assassination, and there is only one person who can help her, and it so happens to be someone from her past that she walked away from for his own safety. Bones never stopped looking for Cat, and when he realized she was in trouble, he would do anything to help her.
I friggin’ love Cat and Bones! I can’t get enough of these two characters. I loved that these two were reunited in the craziest ways, and I also loved how both characters were very possessive of one another, even after all of the years they were separated. This book was just as funny as the first, and I’m glad I was listening to the book during my road trip to a book convention because it definitely helped with my anxiety. The best part was when Cat confronted Bones’s past flings, and those women tried to get between Cat and Bones. Cat is not an FMC you want to mess with, and Bones is an MMC you don’t want to mess with either, especially when someone is trying to hurt Cat.
I love the twists and turns in this one, and was shocked to find out some things in this book that involved Cat’s father. Yes, secrets are revealed in this one, including something about Cat and why she was hesitant to give Bones a chance in her life again. I can’t say it enough, but I love these two characters so much. My love of vampires is coming back in full force because of this series.
If you haven’t read this series, you are missing out. Also, if you enjoy listening to your books, I highly recommend the GraphicAudio version, which has multiple narrators, sound effects, and music. I loved listening to this book and can’t wait to listen to the others.
Once again, this book gets five stars like the first, and I wish I could give it more.
Standalone or Series? This is a series, so I recommend reading in order.
POV: First Person (Single POV)
Would I recommend this book/series? Yes. I recommend this to readers who enjoy reading Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance, which has a lot of action-packed scenes, humorous moments, and even steaminess.

My obsession with reading started over 30+ years ago when I went to my first Scholastic Book Fair and found R.L. Stine's Fear Street series. Later, I came across Anne Rice's novels at my public library when I was fourteen when my obsession with vampires started. I was the girl who preferred to be a vampire over a princess any day. My husband says I would leave him a heartbeat for a vampire that looked like Spike or Angel (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. (It's true, though, and he's accepted it.)
