Some Things Won’t Stay Buried … At Grave’s End
It should be the best time of half-vampire Cat Crawfield’s life. With her undead lover Bones at her side, she’s successfully protected mortals from the rogue undead. But though Cat’s worn disguise after disguise to keep her true identity a secret from the brazen bloodsuckers, her cover’s finally been blown, placing her in terrible danger.
As if that wasn’t enough, a woman from Bones’s past is determined to bury him once and for all. Caught in the crosshairs of a vengeful vamp, yet determined to help Bones stop a lethal magic from being unleashed, Cat’s about to learn the true meaning of bad blood. And the tricks she’s learned as a special agent won’t help her. She will need to fully embrace her vampire instincts in order to save herself – and Bones – from a fate worse than the grave.

If you have not read the previous books in the Night Huntress series, I highly recommend you do, since the storylines are connected. I’m also putting a spoiler alert on my review, just in case readers haven’t read this book or the first two.

At Grave’s End is the third installment in Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series, and once again, this book consumed my life, but it also put me through the wringer. I may have to send Jeaniene Frost my therapy bill after reading this book because it put certain characters in a spiral, and me too.

This book not only put me through the wringer, but also had me laughing out loud and left me in shock with certain scenes. It’s even better if you listen to the audiobook because hearing the narrator bring the characters to life made it fantastic. Bones in particular has the best lines in each book, and I loved it when he announces to Justina, Cat’s mom, what he used to be, then tells her he asked Cat to marry him officially (She is his wife already, but only in vampire terms.) That didn’t go well for Justina, but it did for Bones. 😂 I noticed after reading this book that Cat may have a drinking problem because she’s always drinking gin. Poor girl, I would do the same if I had to deal with her mom, who is so prejudiced against vampires (including her vampire husband). It also doesn’t help that her vampire father is trying to kill her again, and there are other assassination attempts on her life, plus others in this book.

Bones’ grandfather sire Mencheres, has more of a spotlight in this book, too, especially when he warns Bones that war is coming and those assassination attempts are coming from someone he knows too dearly. It’s up to Mencheres and Bones to prepare for the war and get everyone ready for it, so Bones will gain some new powers from Mencheres that will make other master vampires not like it.

This book introduces new characters, as well as bringing back old ones. It made me love some of the returning characters, such as Annette who I now understand why she was upset with Bones being with Cat. She was with him for two hundred years. Then there were Spade and Ian, whom I loved getting to know more in this book, and I know they eventually have their own books. I can’t wait to read them. The biggest vampire that I’m intrigued by is Vlad (aka Dracula) who it seems Bones has beef, and I loved every second of it.

There was one particular old character whom I didn’t care for at all, and I don’t think he’ll ever redeem himself to me. Ahem, Tate! I didn’t like him, especially after he was turned into a vampire. He really thought changing would have Cat running to him. Not going to happen. Tate became a major red flag for what he put Cat through in that limo ride.

Now, the moment that the book had me crying, I won’t give away for anyone who hasn’ t read the book, but be prepared ahead of time. Jeaniene does the unthinkable, and I was so upset at first, but don’t worry, she makes up for it. Seriously, my heart was pounding, and I was hyperventilating with certain characters about what happened. Not cool, Jeaniene. Not cool at all.

Overall, another fantastic read in the Night Huntress series, and I wish I could give it more than five stars. This book has everything I crave in Urban Fantasy: a kickbutt heroine who can handle her own, an alpha hero who may be my favorite vampire hero ever, a great cast of secondary characters, action-packed and gory scenes, and a high-emotional stake storyline that will have you on the edge of your seat. I can’t wait to continue reading this series and the spin-off series. Jeaniene definitely has a fan for life with her books.

Standalone or Series? This is a series, so I recommend reading in order.

POV: First Person (Single POV)

Would I recommend this book or series? Yes, definitely. If you haven’t picked up this series, you are missing out. I’ll keep saying it in my reviews, but this is a perfect series for anyone who was obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel in the nineties.

What to Expect:
⚔️Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance
⚔️Vampires & Ghouls
⚔️Established Relationship between Hero/Heroine
⚔️Found Family
⚔️Alpha Hero & Alpha Heroine
⚔️High Emotional Stakes – 😭 (Will Need Tissues for this book)

Favorite Quote(s):

“Actually, Justina, I didn’t just ring you to chat about what an undead murderer I was…right, degenerate whore as well. Did I ever tell you my mum was one? No? Oh, blimey, I come from a long line of whores, in fact I called to give you the good news. I asked you daughter to marry me. Now, do you want me to call you Mum straightaway, or wait until after the wedding?”

“I love you, Kitten. There’s nothing on this earth or under it that can change that.”

“Get stuffed, don’t you have more publicity stunts to pull?” Bones shot back. “How about chatting with another writer who can smear your name into greater popularity?”
“What, did Anne Rice not return your calls, mate?” Vlad asked scathingly. “Jealousy is such an ugly trait.”
