Their attraction is more dangerous than any weapon of mass destruction
When Special Forces Captain Landon Donovan is chosen for an assignment with the Department of Covert Operations, he's stunned to find his new partner is a beautiful woman who looks like she couldn't hurt a fly, much less take down a terrorist.
Ivy Halliwell isn't your average covert op. Her feline DNA means she can literally bring out the claws when things get dicey. She isn't thrilled to be paired with yet another military grunt, but Landon is different. He doesn't think she's a freak-and he's smokin' hot. Soon they're facing a threat even greater than anyone imagines... and an animal magnetism impossible to ignore.

I can’t believe it took me this long to pick up the first book in Paige Tyler’s X-Ops series, Her Perfect Mate. After I finished reading it, I definitely need to read the rest of the books in this series, especially if each book is just as action-packed, full of mystery and drama, and includes kickbutt characters, such as the ones in this book. I should have known this book would be, though, since I’ve read other books from Paige Tyler.

When the MMC, Special Forces Captain Landon Donovan, is reassigned to the Department of Covert Operations, he learns his partner is Ivy Halliwell, a beautiful woman he initially thinks couldn’t hurt anyone, including him. After their first session, he realizes he may have underestimated her. Ivy is unsure about Landon because she’s worked with military guys like him before, and they didn’t treat her right and even attempted to hurt her. But when she works closely with Landon, she realizes he’s not like the others, and they’re drawn to each other. Their connection has them fighting their attraction and a threat that becomes hard to ignore, especially when one of them is captured.

I mentioned this earlier, but I really enjoyed this story and the characters. I liked the forced teamwork and trust-building between the characters. I liked Ivy’s character because she’s a shifter, but she doesn’t fully shift, which was unique, and I liked how Paige explained what kind of shifter she was and how she became a shifter. I understood why Ivy was hesitant to work with Landon because of past experiences with people like him. She’s been through a lot, and I felt protective of her, just like Landon did, but I knew she could handle herself, and I knew Landon wasn’t like the others.

I loved Landon’s character immediately because he’s alpha-like and doesn’t feel threatened by Ivy and shifters like her. He also becomes very protective of Ivy after he realizes what she’s gone through, and I loved how he handled a certain jealous shifter who had a thing for Ivy and didn’t like Landon right away. Landon puts him in his place and proves himself when Ivy is in danger.

Yes, there is OM drama in this book, but it was handled well. Ivy isn’t into that person, and she has told him that many times. I did understand why this shifter was protective of Ivy, but he had to accept that she wasn’t interested in him.

The chemistry between Landon and Ivy is a slow burn, but when they do give in to those feelings, watch out because it’s sizzling.

The threat revealed toward the end of the book involves gene mutation and the bad guys trying to make more shifters like Ivy. Some of the bad guys are dealt with, including Ivy getting revenge on someone she knows from before, but the bad guys still end up getting what they wanted in the long run. I have a feeling this part of the book will continue throughout the series since the threat wasn’t fully dealt with in this book.

Overall, I give this book four stars and definitely recommend it. I look forward to continuing this series, especially since Paige Tyler has set up a continuing storyline and other characters getting HEA books.

Standalone or Part of Series: It’s the first book in Paige Tyler’s X-OPs series, and I recommend reading the books in order.

POV: Third Person (Dual POV)

Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you are looking for an adventurous, action-packed Paranormal Romance with kickbutt characters like Ivy and Landon, check out Her Perfect Mate by Paige Tyler.
