four-stars

In the rodeo arena, all you have to worry about is surviving. But in the arena of love and ecstasy, things get much more complicated.
Lainie Capshaw has been servicing injured cowboys long enough to know that a charming Western drawl combined with a fine physical form doesn't mean you should fall for a man. As a sports therapist, she travels the rodeo circuits patching up riders - and fending off their sweet-talking, swaggering advances.
So no one is more surprised than Lainie when she finds herself involved with not one, but two different men on different circuits. Hank Lawson, a bullfighter, and Kyle Gilchrist, a bull rider trying to stage a comeback. Lainie feels guilty about her two-timing, but it doesn't keep her from doubling her fun -until Hank catches her with Kyle.
She's shocked that Hank isn't mad. She's more shocked to learn Hank and Kyle are hometown buddies. But when the men offer to share her - she knows that both of them are going to try to win her, body and soul. Now it's up to Lainie to choose the one man who can give her the ride of her life.

If you want a Cowboy Romance that really turns up the heat, you should add Corralled by Lorelei James to your TBR right away. The book first had a hot cowboy model on the cover, but now it’s been republished with an illustrated one. Everyone has their favorite type of cover. I’ll always love the model covers more than the illustrated ones, but I get why authors switch things up to match what readers want these days.

It’s actually been a while since I read a Lorelei James book. When she announced the new covers for the Blacktop Cowboys series, and since I’ve had these books on my TBR for a while, I decided it was finally time to start reading them. Lorelei James always keeps me hooked, and she knows how to write steamy scenes that might leave you needing a cold shower. That’s definitely true for Corralled, the first book in the series. Holy moly, this book is hot from the very beginning, and the characters are both memorable and fantastic. Don’t expect sweet, gentle scenes here. That’s just not Lorelei’s style. She really brings the heat!

One thing that surprised me was that the story starts out as a ménage. I didn’t read the synopsis before starting, since I usually just jump in if I know I like the author’s style. I like to be surprised, and Lorelei James definitely delivered on that. *Spoiler* Don’t expect the book to end as a ménage, though, the main character does choose who she wants to be with by the end, and you’ll see why when you read it.

The FMC, Lainie Capshaw, works with injured cowboys and knows how charming they can be, so she usually doesn’t fall for them. But this time, she finds herself interested in not just one, but two attractive cowboys from different circuits. Both of them start competing for her attention. To win her over, they come up with an idea she can’t resist, especially when they invite her on their rodeo trip. She ends up making some unforgettable, steamy memories with them. In the end, Lainie realizes she can’t stick to her rule about not falling for a cowboy, because she ends up falling in love with one.

Corralled was a wild and steamy read that I really enjoyed. It made me wish I had picked up this book sooner, because Lorelei James writes stories that stick with you long after you finish them, especially with some of the scenes she includes. Even writing this review has me thinking about what Hank and Kyle did with Lanie in the book. The things they did to keep her happy were seriously hot. Lanie was never bored with those two. I loved both of them, and I was happy with who Lanie chose in the end; it made sense who she chose.

But this book isn’t just about the spice. There’s also drama that centers on Lanie and her job. I really felt for her, especially since she works in a male-dominated field on the rodeo circuit. Lorelei James includes a scene that might make some readers uncomfortable, so check your triggers before reading. I was upset that Lanie didn’t want to report what happened at first, until her friend and a certain cowboy stepped in. I also didn’t like how things were handled in the end after it was reported. Still, things work out, and Lanie finds happiness, not just with a cowboy, but in her life and work too. She truly deserved happiness in both.

Overall, this was a steamy and engaging story with memorable characters and scenes, so I’m giving it four stars. Now I’m more determined than ever to read the rest of this series by Lorelei James. I need more steamy cowboy romance books, and Lorelei James always delivers. It also helps when she writes alpha cowboys in her books. =)

Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the Blacktop Cowboys series and probably could be read as a standalone.

POV: Third Person (Multi-POV)

Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you enjoy steamy cowboy romance books, then this is a must-read.
