New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s dangerous and beautiful world of archangels, vampires, and mortals has never faced a threat this cataclysmic…
Raphael and Elena are experiencing their first ever year of true peace. No war. No horrors of archangelic power. No nightmares given flesh. Until…the earth beneath the Refuge begins to tremble, endangering not only angelkind’s precious and fragile young, but the very place that has held their most innocent safe for eons.
Amid the chaos, Elena’s father suffers a violent heart attack that threatens to extinguish their last chance to heal the bonds between them and make sense of the ruins of their agonizing shared history.
Even as Elena battles grief, Raphael is torn from her side by the sudden disappearance of an archangel. But worse yet is to come. An Ancestor, an angel unlike any other, stirs from his Sleep to warn the Cadre of a darkness so terrible that it causes empires to fall and civilizations to vanish.
This time, even the Cadre itself may not be able to stop a ticking clock that is counting down at frightening speed…
Archangel’s Lineage is the sixteenth novel in Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series. This series has had me in a chokehold since I first started reading it in 2014. After finding out that this book would focus once more on my favorite power couple in the series, Raphael and Elena, I knew instantly it was going to be another fantastic read. Heck, every character in the series that has gotten a book has touched my heart in some way, but Raphael and Elena’s relationship will always be my top favorite. Their love for one another since the beginning has been captivating and endless.
I thought with the war being over that, the archangels, angels, vampires, and humans would finally find peace and happiness after rebuilding, but unfortunately things are still not okay. One of the archangels has gone missing from the Cadre, leaving the rest of the power structure off balance, once again. Then, there’s the issue of earthquakes, volcano eruptions, etc., happening that has an Ancestor awakening to warn the Cadre that the end may be near for them. It’s up to Raphael, Elena, and everyone to learn how to stop it with the Ancestor’s help. On top of everything happening, Elena receives word that her father isn’t doing well.
This book definitely brought on the waterworks for me, especially when it came to what Elena was dealing with when it came to her father. She’s still dealing with what happened to her mother and sisters years ago; I could only imagine what would happen to her if she lost her father, too. She’s learning, though, in this book that her immortality comes with a cost, and that is, one day, the ones she loves will be gone. She’ll always have Raphael, though. I loved how Raphael was constantly checking on her and knew exactly what she needed. Elena was continuously checking on him, too, since they had to be separate for a bit to deal with their issues.
I’m so glad in 2014, I decided to pick up this series from Guild Hunter. This series as a whole is one I find myself thinking about constantly, which is why I’m always compelled to pick it up and reread it. (I’ve reread it several times, and I will always find myself rereading it.) The world and characters Nalini has written for this series are captivating and unforgettable. The worldbuilding alone for this series is top-notch. I have no idea how Nalini keeps up with it, but she is absolutely a genius at writing series like this one, plus her Psy-Changeling series (which I need to finish soon.) I can’t wait for what she has in store next for the Guild Hunter series. I know I’m one reader who would love to read another Illium and Aodhan story because they are another favorite couple in the series. I don’t want this series ever to end.
I give Archangel’s Lineage five stars, and I wish I could give it more. It definitely deserves all the stars in the universe with how much I adored this book. (The series as a whole gets all the stars in the universe.)
If you haven’t picked up this series, you are missing out. I will forever recommend the Guild Hunter series to readers who love Paranormal or Fantasy Romance.
