When a high-society party is crashed by a naked, knife-wielding, blood-covered man who "thinks" he might have killed someone, Eve Dallas must track down the crime, and the criminals. Everything points to Satanic ritual, but Eve doesn't believe in devil worship.…

Ritual in Death is another novella by J.D. Robb in her In Death series, and I never skip novellas in this series. I’ve been reading the series in order, including the novellas, since 2020, and I can’t believe I still haven’t picked up this series sooner because it’s become an instant favorite. It’s amazing how many books J.D. Robb has written in this series, and I’m determined to catch up on them.

I don’t want to risk spoiling the storyline, but just know that Eve, Peabody, and the help of Roarke have to figure out a ritualistic murder that happened at a party. Eve doesn’t believe in rituals, especially if they involve the devil, but it doesn’t help to consult someone who may know more about rituals.

I enjoyed this novella, even if the story was short, because it gave me my favorite characters again. It was fast-paced and easy to read. I just love Eve and Peabody’s working relationship, and I friggin’ love Eve and Roarke. They are my favorite couple, and no one can top them. I love following them on cases because it feels like I’m there trying to uncover it with them, even though sometimes the cases can be gruesome and give me nightmares.

Overall, I give this novella four stars and can’t wait to read the next full-length book in the series. For anyone who enjoys Romantic Suspense or Police Procedurals, start the In Death series; you’ll be hooked and quickly understand why everyone loves this series by J.D. Robb.
