Sinful pleasure and forbidden desire rule in #1 bestselling author Lora Leigh's story For Maggie's Sake, previously published in the anthologies Real Men Do It Better and Taken, now exclusively in ebook format.Maggie Chavez is in protective custody with a member of her former lover's SEAL team. Joe, her ex-lover, thinks Maggie is hiding information from him about a powerful drug lord and the deaths of some SEALs. He intends to seduce her and get the information before she can sell it back to the drug cartel. But the desire crackles between them and their attraction is undeniable. How can Joe use her and leave her, when all he wants is to hold her close and never let go?
For Maggie’s Sake is another novella in Lora Leigh’s Tempting SEALs series. It was an enjoyable, fast-paced read. The only issue I had was how the book started, as I felt I was missing some storyline with the characters. I read the previous book in the series, but the way this one began threw me off.
Other than that, I enjoyed the story between Joe and Maggie. They have had feelings for a while, but Maggie ended up with someone else, who turned out to be a horrible person working with the mafia. Now everyone thinks Maggie is involved too, but Joe knows better. He is sure Maggie was not part of the mafia or her husband’s actions, and he is dedicated to finding out the truth and protecting her.
This was a second-chance romance between Joe and Maggie since they had chemistry beforehand. I could tell when they were together in this novella that they were trying to fight that attraction. They should have been together in the first place, and Maggie never with Grant, but Joe had trust issues from his past. In the end, things work out between them, and Maggie gets her name cleared thanks to Joe never giving up on her.
Even with it being a novella, it gets spicy between the characters, and I’m glad that Maggie finds her happiness with Joe. Someone who truly loved the ground she walked on and knew what she craved.
Overall, an enjoyable read, and I give it 3.5-stars. I can’t wait to continue reading the rest of this series. One thing I’ve noticed is that Lora Leigh knows how to write some alpha heroes and unforgettable heroines.
POV: Third Person (Dual POV)
