Luca dragged me from hell and delivered me to salvation. At least that's what I thought.
I hoped this would be a new life. A fresh start. But the pain followed.I'm certain the monsters did, too.
I'm told it's paranoia. Trauma. PTSD.Nobody believes my truth.But they'll soon learn.
We all will.
Because as much as I want to forget the mantra from my nightmares, it hasn't stopped being true. The good guys never conquer. Evil always wins.
Note: Before you dive into Luca, I strongly recommend reading Savior first, as these books are part of a duet that must be read in order. In fact, I suggest reading the entire series in sequence to fully understand the storylines and characters.
After finishing Savior, I was excited to pick up Luca, eager to read how Luca supported Penny in her recovery after her rescue from Luther. I expected Penny’s struggles with PTSD, but also her resilience and Luca’s steadfast support. She was a fighter, and that was one reason why I loved her character. She wasn’t going to give up. Luca is the typical alpha-type, which Eden writes very well, and I loved him, especially when he stood up to Cole and even Decker.
The issue is that Penny and the girls that Cole and Luca rescued are still in danger, and the one person they thought was dead may very well not be dead. Luca is determined to protect Penny, but Penny wants to be able to protect herself, too, because she never wants to be a victim again.
I found the second book of Luca & Penny’s story emotionally powerful. Penny’s journey toward healing and her ability to accept love after trauma resonated strongly. Luca protected and encouraged her to move forward, even as he struggled with his feelings and respect for her brother. Inevitably, they fell for each other despite these challenges, and I was there for the moment they gave in to those feelings for one another.
This is a slow-burn romance, so it takes a bit for Luca and Penny to make any moves, but the slowness makes sense with these two characters. Penny has things to work through because if you read the first book, you’ll understand.
Overall, a great ending to Luca and Penny’s story, and I give it four stars. This book does end in a cliffhanger, though, and the next book is the continuation of Cole and Anissa’s storyline, and I can’t wait to read it.
Single/Dual POV: Dual POV (First Person)
Cliffhanger: Yes.

My obsession with reading started over 30+ years ago when I went to my first Scholastic Book Fair and found R.L. Stine's Fear Street series. Later, I came across Anne Rice's novels at my public library when I was fourteen when my obsession with vampires started. I was the girl who preferred to be a vampire over a princess any day. My husband says I would leave him a heartbeat for a vampire that looked like Spike or Angel (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. (It's true, though, and he's accepted it.)
