These men don't build bridges... They bury bodies.
I fell for the enemy.A man whose actions resembled the devil so closely it was sickening. But I learned from my mistakes.
At least I thought I had.Until I’m tempted back into his life with a case I can’t refuse.
Cole Torian needs my help. And I’m unable to deny him.
This time I voluntarily put my career on the line.Along with my safety. My heart. My sanity.I risk everything for him and his family of accomplished criminals.
But succumbing to my tormentor comes with more than a personal price.Everyone will pay for my mistakes with Cole. And not all will live to tell the tale.
Cole is the sixth book in Eden Summers’ Hunting Her series. It continues Cole and Anissa’s storyline, so books three through six must be read in order. I highly recommend reading the whole series for the best experience.
Read my review with caution for possible spoilers if you haven’t finished the previous books. I will try to avoid spoilers, as these books are best experienced unspoiled.
It was great to return to Cole and Anissa’s story. I was eager to see if they’d finally admit their feelings, especially after book three’s ending. Anissa, in particular, harbored feelings for Cole despite what happened in Greece, but she kept denying them the whole time in this book. Although she’s an FBI agent, she sees that Cole isn’t all bad. When his niece and little brother are kidnapped, she’ll do anything to help, even if Cole and his family struggle to trust her.
Cole was the main reason I enjoyed this book. He never changed, and his focus remained on protecting his family, especially when his niece and brother were kidnapped. However, when he finds out who has them, he must make a choice that could cost him the person he loves due to what his father promised years ago, but he’ll do anything to get out of it.
When it came to Anissa, I still had issues with her, as I did with the third book. She didn’t act like a strong heroine in my opinion, and I just didn’t like her like other heroines in the series so far. She was annoying at times, and I couldn’t get past her personality. The fact that she was an FBI agent just didn’t sit with me either because she had no backbone, at least not until the end of this book. She had everyone under Cole’s employment and even his sisters, giving her such a hard time, and instead of standing up to them, she just let them talk the way they did to her. It wasn’t until the end, she finally grew that backbone, but by that time, I just didn’t care to like her.
In my opinion, Cole could have done so much better, but here’s hoping in the upcoming books, I see Anissa in the background a little bit, and maybe she’ll convince me, she’ll fit into Cole’s world better. She needs to be, since he’s not going to give up his lifestyle anytime soon, especially when new characters are introduced in this book that played havoc with his family.
This book was emotional due to the kidnapping, but also because of a life-changing event that happens to someone in the family at the end. No spoilers here. This is why it’s important to read the previous books.
Overall, I give this book 3.5-stars, and even though I wasn’t a fan of Anissa, other readers may enjoy her character. The storyline and Cole are the whole reason why I kept reading this book. If there is one thing that Eden writes well is alpha, morally grey characters, and Cole is that character. She also writes some suspenseful and action-packed scenes that have you on the edge of your seat, and that definitely happened in this book, trying to get the kids back from the kidnappers.
POV: Dual POV (First Person)
Would I recommend this book? Yes. I recommend this to readers who enjoy Romantic Suspense with a Mafia storyline, Enemies to Lovers, and Forbidden Romance tropes. This book is for you. If Alpha Heroes appeal to you, I suggest checking out the whole Hunting Her series.
What to Expect:
✔️Romantic Suspense
✔️Mafia Romance
✔️Forbidden Love
✔️Enemies to Lovers
✔️Forced Proximity
