The last thing any professional hockey player wants is to be the old man in the game. The guy who doesn’t know when it’s time to retire. Still, I can’t bear the thought of leaving the game.
This past year I’ve reflected on all my regrets, and I told myself that once I retire it’ll be the time to find the right woman. But this is where it gets tricky.
I think I’ve found her—although she’ll deny our connection to anyone who asks. We’ve been sleeping together casually and since I’m still playing hockey, I’ve let her get what she wants—me—whenever she wants.
After being told my career as a player is over, the owner of Florida Fury grants me a shot to stay in the game. A coaching position I didn’t know I wanted until it was offered. The catch? He’s also passing the family business down to his daughter.
Who’s his daughter?
The woman who’s been in and out of my bed for the past year. Which means the woman I intend to make mine is now my new boss.
I told myself this year (2024) that I was going to finish some series that I started, and Hockey Hotties was one of them. I’m sad, though, because I enjoyed this Hockey Romance series from this author duo and now it’s ended. I’m going to miss these hockey players and their FMCs, who have become a family. Thankfully, the author duo has a whole backlist and they also are releasing new books that I can read, too, since finding their books a couple of years ago.
In Offside with #55, I finally got to read Kane Burrows and Jana Gerhart’s book after Piper & Rayne teased their readers about these two having a secret relationship. The whole time, I thought these two didn’t like each other, especially when it came to how they reacted to one another.
The MMC, Kane, has been on the fence about retiring as a hockey player, and now he’s been offered the position of coach for the team. The only thing is the woman he has been secretly seeing is now his boss due to her being the new owner of the team, and these two are going to butt heads a lot in the book, not only due to the team but their relationship.
I love a good workplace romance where it’s also boss/employee and you know there’s going to be some banter between the two characters. It was a fun read, and I definitely enjoyed Kane and Jana’s story. It would have been a 5-star book if the conflict at the end hadn’t felt off for the characters. The whole time, these characters kept saying what they didn’t want when it came to their relationship; until the end, something shifted, and it just didn’t feel believable. Yes, people can change their minds, but when it came to Kane and Jana, they could have been happy together with their original decision. But that’s my personal opinion, and other readers may not mind it. Overall, it’s a 4-star read, and I’m glad I read this series. The author duo definitely has a reader for life.
If you enjoy reading Hockey Romance that is light and fluffy with some spice with a variety of tropes, then check out the Hockey Hotties series.
