A Taste of Blood
Ever since his abduction by the Eternal Order of Vampires, Gray Donohue has finally found his true calling: vengeance. He will stop at nothing to bring his fellow Impure vampires the freedom they deserve. Now if he could just release his primal need for the beautiful vampire who saved his life—and rules his thoughts and desires…
After nearly killing the senator she was assigned to protect, Dillon is now in mortal danger. The jaguar within her has been unleashed, and she can no longer control it. Sex is the only thing that can tame her shift. And Gray is the only man who can make her surrender to a passion strong enough to overpower her inner beast. But she doesn’t want to surrender—she wants her life back. Because she is determined never to belong to anyone, especially not Gray—the male whom destiny claims is her mate…
Eternal Beast is the fourth installment in Laura Wright’s Mark of the Vampire series. This book has been on my shelf for a while now, and I was overdue to read it, especially since it’s my mission to read books on my physical TBR this year (2026). Plus, I’ve wanted to read some past vampire stories and enjoyed the previous books in this series.
Unfortunately, this book didn’t grip me as the others in the series have. The pacing felt slow, and I struggled to connect with the chemistry between Gray and Dillon, even though their relationship was set up in earlier books. While I liked Gray and appreciated his actions (especially for what he did for Dillon), Dillon’s attitude and quest for revenge (toward the Senator) made it difficult for me to root for her.
For me, Gray fits the alpha hero type that I tend to enjoy in romance books. As the leader of the Resistance, I appreciated his determination to protect the Impures, like himself, and protect Dillon, even though she resents his help. He truly shone for me in this book, and he definitely was the main reason why I kept reading it.
When it came to Dillon, I understood Dillon’s focus on self-protection and loyalty to her brothers, but I found it hard to fully connect with her methods and choices. I did notice that when Dillon finally accepts Gray as her mate (which felt inevitable, especially since her jaguar side struggled until meeting him), their relationship becomes quite passionate. Personally, though, I still wasn’t convinced by their emotional connection as much as I was with previous series couples who had their happily ever afters.
This book did show how the Order is after the Impure and Mutori, and let’s just say I don’t like them much, and I’m all about changes being made within.
Do I plan on reading the next book? Yes. I’m determined to finish the series and see who else finds their HEA and how things wrap up, especially regarding the Order and unresolved storylines or secrets being withheld from certain characters that need to be revealed already.
Overall, I give this 3-stars and find it an okay read. If there is one piece of advice I’ll give to readers who haven’t read this series yet, it’s to read the books in order because the storylines are connected, and you’ll feel loss.
POV: Third Person (Multi-POV)
Would I recommend this book? Yes, because others may enjoy it more than I did. I recommend this series to Paranormal Romance readers who love Vampires and the Fated Mates trope.
What to Expect:
✔️Fated Mates
✔️Enemies to Lovers
✔️Forbidden Love
✔️Alpha Hero
✔️Vampire Hero
✔️Half Vampire/Jaguar Shifter Heroine
