They say love hurts—but they never mentioned it could make you bleed.
His deceit was like wine.I drank it in. Let it intoxicate me.But he’s not the man I fell for.Matthew Langston is a lie.
I’d run from him if I could. I’d flee. If only he hadn’t turned my family against me.Now, I have nothing. There’s no money, phone, or external support.Only him, and his obsession with winning me back.
So I’ll use it to my advantage. I’ll use him.Because he made a promise to help me get revenge on those we despise. And once that’s over, so are we.
The seductively thrilling conclusion to Matthew and Layla's story.
Ruthless Redemption wraps up Layla and Matthew’s story. If you haven’t read Seeking Vengeance yet, I suggest starting there before reading this review. I’ll try not to spoil anything, but consider this your spoiler warning.
This book picks up right where Seeking Vengeance ended. If you finished that one, you’ll know why Layla is upset with Matthew and why he has to earn her trust again after finding out who he really is. I liked reading about Layla and Matthew, but this isn’t my favorite in the series. My main issue was with Layla putting herself and her family in danger to get revenge for her husband, who I didn’t like, especially after what he did in Torian’s books. I wished Layla would focus more on her daughter and see that Matthew truly cared for her, even though she kept testing him, especially in this book. Layla also thought her brother and sister didn’t care, but it was clear they did; they just wanted her to think before acting. I actually respected Torian more in this book and how he handled things with Layla.
Matthew was the main reason I enjoyed both this book and the last one. He’s very protective and determined, not just with Layla but with her daughter, too. He even stood up to his brothers for Layla, even after learning what their father did to his siblings. The man was willing to give her the revenge she craved, but she had to wait until things were put in place; of course, she made that difficult at times.
Bishop’s character also stood out to me, and I’m looking forward to reading his story next. He brought a lot of humor to the book, especially in the way he handled awkward situations with Layla and Matthew. There are some steamy scenes where Bishop ends up witnessing things he’d rather not see, which made for some funny moments.
The villain Layla wants revenge on appears in this book, and he really is a terrible person, especially after learning what he did to his other children. I’m satisfied with how things turned out for him. No spoilers here.
Overall, I thought this book was okay and I’d rate it 3.5 stars. If Layla had been a stronger and less reckless heroine, I probably would have liked her more, but she just frustrated me. Matthew, on the other hand, is a hero I won’t forget and might be my favorite in the series.
If you want a romantic suspense with mafia themes and an over-the-top possessive hero who will do anything for the heroine, check out Seeking Vengeance and Ruthless Redemption.
Important Note: Layla and Matthew’s duet should be read in order. I actually recommend the whole Hunting Her series in order for the best reading experience, and this is coming from someone who is reading them in order.

My obsession with reading started over 30+ years ago when I went to my first Scholastic Book Fair and found R.L. Stine's Fear Street series. Later, I came across Anne Rice's novels at my public library when I was fourteen when my obsession with vampires started. I was the girl who preferred to be a vampire over a princess any day. My husband says I would leave him a heartbeat for a vampire that looked like Spike or Angel (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. (It's true, though, and he's accepted it.)
