A thousand years.
It’s been a millennium since Elena’s fateful first meeting with Archangel Raphael. She has survived war and loss, experienced beauty and cruelty. But no matter what, she has always held on to her mortal heart, as she and Raphael have held on to each other. Passionate and vibrant, they’ve built a life that has stood the test of time, growing ever stronger with each turn of the sun.
But change is coming—of a magnitude they could have never imagined—and it will forever alter the trajectory of their existence.
Even as they grapple with the cataclysmic shift in their personal lives, the Cadre of Ten, which has maintained a hard-won peace for centuries, begins to simmer with dangerous fault lines. The specter of madness looms in one archangel, the promise of war burns between two others, and in darkness far from mortal and immortal eyes stirs an ancient, slumbering power.
Suddenly, the future is terrifyingly uncertain . . . at the very moment that Elena and her archangel need to protect a treasure infinitely more precious than eternity.
I can’t believe it’s the end of one of my favorite series, the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh. Ever since I picked up Angels’ Blood years ago, I’ve been consumed in this world and the characters that Nalini Singh created. They became like family to me, and I’m happy that each of them got their happily ever after, and the last book in the series ends with Raphael and Elena. My favorite power couple ever in a PNR series.
I loved how Elena is still a part of the Guild in this book, plus she’s going to have a life-changing event happen that will impact her and Raphael in a big way. I loved this part of the book the most because here it was that Elena and Raphael were going to realize they could handle whatever life threw at them. They were not like their parents because they had each other. I loved how the other Seven played an intricate part in this book, and we got to read what they were up to; even Illium, who is part of the Cadre, didn’t change. He does have to deal with his father in this book, but let’s just say he’ll be handled in a way by someone surprising. (Illium will forever be one of my favorites in the series, and I loved how he hasn’t changed.)
This book touches on loss, where Elena lives in a world with family members and friends who are no longer there, including someone who was a part of her life after her father kicked her out when she was younger. My heart hurt for Elena with everyone she lost, but she gained another family in the meantime, plus other friends who keep her on her toes.
To avoid spoilers, I’ll say this is a fantastic conclusion for fans. Reading it was emotional, and I imagine Nalini Singh felt the same while writing. Thank you, Nalini, for creating a series that will always resonate with me. I will reread it and look forward to sharing these books with my daughters.
If I could rate this series a million stars, I would. Five stars aren’t enough for this book or the series. (I’m crying while typing up this review, that’s how much this series has meant to me.)
POV: Multi-POV (Third Person)
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s the last book in the Guild Hunter series, and this series is best read in order.
Would I recommend this book/series? Yes, definitely. I recommend this series to PNR/UF readers. Now that it’s complete, it’s perfect for binge-reading. (Take it from someone who has reread this series often.)
Audiobook Review: I highly recommend the audiobooks for this series, especially with Justine Eyre’s distinct narration for each character. She’s one of my favorite narrators, and I loved that she narrated my favorite series.

About Nalini Singh

I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.
I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).
So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.

My obsession with reading started over 30+ years ago when I went to my first Scholastic Book Fair and found R.L. Stine's Fear Street series. Later, I came across Anne Rice's novels at my public library when I was fourteen when my obsession with vampires started. I was the girl who preferred to be a vampire over a princess any day. My husband says I would leave him a heartbeat for a vampire that looked like Spike or Angel (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. (It's true, though, and he's accepted it.)
