The “smoldering heat, epic romance, and awesome action”* of Nalini Singh’s New York Times bestselling series continues as two Arrows find themselves caught in a chilling conspiracy that spans all three races…
Awakening wounded in a darkened cell, their psychic abilities blocked, Aden and Zaira know they must escape. But when the lethal soldiers break free from their mysterious prison, they find themselves in a harsh, inhospitable landscape far from civilization. Their only hope for survival is to make it to the hidden home of a predatory changeling pack that doesn’t welcome outsiders.
And they must survive. A shadowy enemy has put a target on the back of the Arrow squad, an enemy that cannot be permitted to succeed in its deadly campaign. Aden will cross any line to keep his people safe for this new future, where even an assassin might have hope of a life beyond blood and death and pain. Zaira has no such hope. She knows she’s too damaged to return from the abyss. Her driving goal is to protect Aden, protect the only person who has ever come back for her no matter what. This time, even Aden’s passionate determination may not be enough—because the emotionless chill of Silence existed for a reason. For the violent, and the insane, and the irreparably broken…like Zaira.

Shards of Hope is the fourteenth novel in Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series. Every installment is an emotional rollercoaster, and this one was no different. I’ve been listening to the audiobooks and I’m really enjoying them, thanks to Angela Dawe’s outstanding narration.
Fair Warning: If you haven’t read this series yet, I recommend starting at the beginning to avoid spoilers in my review.
With Silence fallen, some Psy are still struggling to adjust, which is affecting other communities. Aden Kai, the new leader of the Arrows, is determined to prove that the Arrows’ dark past is behind them, despite people having doubts about his strength, and a new threat that is coming to light that threatens everything. He’s ready to prove himself, assisted by another Arrow who needs his help.
Though Psy are known for their lack of emotion, finding their mates brings new feelings, as seen with Aden and Zaira. I enjoyed learning about Zaira and Aden, two Psys with dark pasts shaped by their lives as Arrows. Aden and Zaira’s slow-burning romance captivated me; both are strong, determined, and perfectly matched.
Overall, such a great installment that kept me on the edge of my seat while I was listening to it. I give this book 4.5 stars and can’t wait to read the last book in the Psy-Changeling series, so I can start the spin-off series. I still can’t get over the fact that it took me this long to read this series because if there is one thing I’ve learned is that Nalini truly is a mastermind of storytelling. I love her Guild Hunter, but I also love this series just as much. I have no idea to this day how Nalini keeps up with everything, but all I can say is if you haven’t read her books yet, you need to immediately. She’s one of my favorite authors, and I will be talking about this series, plus her Guild Hunter for years to come. I really need Hollywood to get their act together and reach out to Nalini Singh because it could really get some amazing TV shows/movies from her books alone.
POV: Third Person (Multi-POV)
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the Psy-Changeling series and each book needs to be read in order.
Would I recommend this book/series? Yes. If you enjoy Paranormal Romance with high-stakes stories and unforgettable characters, read the Psy-Changeling series.

About Nalini Singh

I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.
I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).
So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.

My obsession with reading started over 30+ years ago when I went to my first Scholastic Book Fair and found R.L. Stine's Fear Street series. Later, I came across Anne Rice's novels at my public library when I was fourteen when my obsession with vampires started. I was the girl who preferred to be a vampire over a princess any day. My husband says I would leave him a heartbeat for a vampire that looked like Spike or Angel (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. (It's true, though, and he's accepted it.)
