Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she is the best- but she does not know if even she is good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, Elena knows failure is not an option—even if the task is impossible.
Because this time, it's not a wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel gone bad.
The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other—and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt does not destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just might. For when archangels play, mortals break.
I last read Angels’ Blood in 2019, but with the final book coming out in 2026, I wanted to revisit the series. This isn’t my first reread. This was my fourth time reading this book, and I plan to read it again in the future because Nalini Singh writes stories and characters that feel unforgettable, almost like family, so they’re always worth revisiting. It was great revisiting the moments that Elena and Raphael first met, even though their relationship at first was rough. I found this book still means a lot to me. I’m definitely not ready to say goodbye to these characters.
For this reread in 2026, I chose to read the physical book instead of listening to the audiobook, so I could really enjoy each page and notice things I missed before. I even took notes on some of my favorite moments and quotes.
As soon as I started reading Angels’ Blood, I knew I wouldn’t get anything else done. The first page pulled me right into Nalini Singh’s world. I’ve always loved strong female characters, and Elena is exactly that. I liked her right away when she stood up to Raphael. And I absolutely loved Raphael; he’s a powerful, captivating archangel who was great to follow throughout the story, even though he was scary at times with how he reacted around Elena.
Elena is a Guild Hunter who tracks down vampires that the archangels want returned when they try to escape their duties. This time, she’s been asked to hunt a rogue archangel. She faces tough challenges on this mission, especially with Raphael watching her closely. While she tries to resist his charm, Raphael is also struggling not to lose his powers to a human who fascinates him.
Nalini builds a unique world where things aren’t always as they seem. Archangels try to keep order, but it’s tough when one of them goes rogue. That’s where the Guild Hunters come in, handling both rogue vampires and now rogue archangels thanks to Elena’s unique skills. Elena stands out as a strong lead, and Raphael is the kind of dangerous archangel you’ll either love or hate. Personally, I loved him!
I enjoyed how Nalini wrote the story from different points of view, letting readers follow both Elena and Raphael (and another character, too). The ending was a cliffhanger, and even though I expected it, I was still amazed by how Nalini wrapped things up. It was definitely an explosive finish.
After reading this book for the fourth time, I’m still in love with the story and its characters. I wish I could give it more than five stars; it really deserves it. This book introduced me to Elena, Raphael, and the rest of Raphael’s Seven, and these characters have truly made an impact on me, even though they’re fictional. This series got me hooked on Nalini’s books, and I can’t wait to see what she writes next.
Cliffhanger: Yes.
POV: Third Person (Multi-POV – More Dual POV though.)
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the Guild Hunter series, and I highly recommend reading the books in order due to the storylines being connected.
Would I recommend this Book/Series? Yes. If you are a fan of Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy books that are full of suspenseful, action-packed scenes and a very possessive hero who happens to be a very powerful Archangel of New York, then this is a must-read. You’ll also want to check out Nalini’s other series, Psy-Changeling, which is another must-read.
What to Expect:
✔️Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy
✔️Forbidden Romance – Hunter vs. Archangel
✔️OTT Jealous/Possessive Archangel Hero
✔️Kickbutt Heroine
✔️Vampires/Angels/Archangels
Favorite Quote(s):
“Some things were worth the dance with danger.”
“He leaned a fraction closer. “My lovers have always been warrior women. Strength intrigues me.”
She refused to let him play with her like this, even if her body disagreed. Vehemently. “Do knives intrigue you, too? Because touch me and I will cut you up. I don’t care if you throw me off the nearest balcony.”
“Either I splay you out on the table and drive my cock into you, or—“
“—or?” She wanted to snuggle up to him, taste the tendons in his neck.
“Or, I splay you out on the table and lick you to your pleasure, then drive into you.”
“If you take another lover, Elena” — he thrust back in, making her gasp — “what I do to him will become a nightmare etched in human memory.”

About Nalini Singh

I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.
I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).
So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.

My obsession with reading started over 30+ years ago when I went to my first Scholastic Book Fair and found R.L. Stine's Fear Street series. Later, I came across Anne Rice's novels at my public library when I was fourteen when my obsession with vampires started. I was the girl who preferred to be a vampire over a princess any day. My husband says I would leave him a heartbeat for a vampire that looked like Spike or Angel (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. (It's true, though, and he's accepted it.)
