A man who shoots first and asks questions later…
Most people would take an all-expenses-paid trip to the beach in a heartbeat. Garrett Kelly only accepts to keep tabs on Sarah Daniels, who’s in hiding after witnessing a murder by Marcus Lattimer, her half-brother—and a personal enemy of KGI. This gig may be beneath a disciplined soldier like Garrett, but if he gets a shot at Lattimer, it will all be worth it…
…and the ultimate moving target.
But Garrett hadn’t counted on falling for Sarah. He’d considered seduction as a tactical maneuver, but when he glimpses Sarah’s dark past, he feels an urgent desire to keep her safe—even after she disappears on him. Garrett doesn’t know exactly who, or what, Sarah’s running from, but whatever it is, she’s running for her life…
Hidden Away is the third installment in Maya Banks’s KGI series. While reading, I realized I should have started this series sooner because I’m enjoying each book in this series. This series is definitely fulfilling my love of reading Romantic Suspense, one of my favorite subgenres.
This time, readers get Garrett Kelly’s book, and he’s the Kelly who likes to be involved in every mission that KGI is a part of, even if he’s still injured from the last mission. This time, he’s sent on a mission to find Sarah Daniels, who witnessed her half-brother murder someone, an event that forced her to go into hiding. Her half-brother is one person that KGI has been after for a while now. Garrett knows the second he meets Sarah that something traumatic happened to her, and it’s up to him to figure out what it is and protect her, even though he’s after her half-brother. The issue, though, is that the minute he gets close to her, she ends up running again, but that won’t deter him from finding her. I loved that he wasn’t going to give up.
I enjoyed Hidden Away and reading Garrett’s book. He’s been a favorite MMC since his introduction in the first book. He’s not only an alpha hero, but he’s also a sweetheart. He does something in this book that puts him in the book husband category. Sarah is one lucky gal for having him, even if he’s hiding who he is from her at first, which I was against him doing in the first place. He should have told her the truth.
I liked Sarah’s character too, and I felt sympathy for her because she was struggling after being forced to hide following the murder she witnessed, plus other reasons. Her experience understandably left her with deep trust issues after what I found out about what happened to her. I may not have liked her half-brother because he’s a bad guy, but what he did for her at the beginning of the book was understandable.
I can’t believe it took me this long to read this series, but I’m definitely determined to read it this year (2026). I love the heroes in this series, the Kelly brothers, because they truly seem to be a fun band of brothers, and I loved their parents. Seriously, why aren’t these characters real? They truly would be fun to be around. Why isn’t this series a TV show, either, because this is something I would definitely watch? Get with it, Hollywood.
Overall, I give this book four stars. The only reason why I didn’t give it five stars was that the ending felt kind of rushed, but I really enjoyed this book. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
POV: Third Person (Dual POV)
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the KGI series, and I recommend reading these books in order for the best reading experience.
Would I recommend this book/series? Yes, if you enjoy reading Romantic Suspense, then you need to check out Maya Banks’s KGI series.
